Gotta say, our defensive prospect depth is pretty damn impressive right now. At least two of Niemelainen, Lagesson, Marino and Simpson won't be in our top 20 prospects; and all of them are decent prospects that have a chance to be NHLers IMO. I also think Phil Kemp could be a sleeper, was impressed with his game at the recent U20 showcase. Could be some great assets to pick up rentals in the coming years, or to have as cheap ELC players coming in when cap space is tight.

That said, I went with Niemelainen here. I'm a little concerned with how his game progressed in the last year, I didn't want to draw any conclusions from boxscore watching but his play at the U20 showcase wasn't very good. Didn't look like the same player I watched at the 2016 u18s or in camp last fall. That said, he was so good in those two events that there's definitely a solid chance he returns to that level back in Finland. Hopefully he has a strong start to the year and makes the Finns u20 team.
