HFNHL Rangers Trade Deadline Recap
Team looks to the future

It was a busy trade deadline for the HFNHL Rangers, working the phone lines right down to the last minute. Three trades (with Edmonton, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia) were completed on deadline day, with the common theme being sending players with expiring contracts to teams in the playoff hunt. On the outside of the playoff picture looking in, the team couldn't afford to hold these players and then lose them for nothing following the season. While there is some top young talent on the way, the overall depth of the pipeline leaves something to be desired. Zach Werenski and Nick Schmaltz are expected to join the team next season, and the Rangers' best player, Filip Forsberg, is still just 22 years old. 2016 draft picks Mike McLeod, Rem Pitlick, Otto Koivula, among others have performed well this season. The Rangers are projected to have 4 picks in about the top 65 and 12 overall draft choices, giving the organization ample opportunity to restock the system beyond the top tier of young talent. Willie Mitchell and Matt Carle were added to keep the team compliant with the salary floor.
