The Nashville Predators have gone nowhere fast when starting goaltender Josh Harding went down with an injury in December. 2 months of mediocrity have sealed the deal on the season with the playoffs way out of reach.

So what are the potential changes they team may face? First and foremost the obvious need is a starting goaltender. This type of player usually is not available at the trade deadline and if it is, it does not come at the price a non-playoff team is willing to pay. One should not count out the possibility of the Predators going after a goalie who can be a cornerstone beyond this season.

Another big need is at center. Probably the most crucial position after a goaltender in the league today, the Predators are not blessed with quality down the middle. Derek Roy and Marcus Kruger have not been able to cut it for the Predators, so a top six center who can be a contributor beyond the season is a big need.

But which pieces could be moved? The Predators have a glut of solid wingers and the likes of Jiri Hudler, Corey Perry or Matt Beleskey could be available to bring in help in the afforementioned areas. Also the defensemen are a strong group, and a player like Braydon Coburn could be interesting for a contending team. Also Eric Gryba or Eric Gelinas are potential trade candidates.

The Predators may also be looking for 2015 draft picks to improve their prospect depth.
