HFNHL Preds
With actually the last shot of the regular season, Nick Foligno lifted the Predators into the HFNHL postseason by scoring in a game-(and season-)deciding shootout on the Winnipeg Jets star goalie Sergei Bobrovsky. So after an abysmal first half of the season and some housecleaning leading up to the trade deadline, that saw Jiri Hudler and Braydon Coburn amongst others getting moved, the team finished extremely strong and nabbed the last remaining playoff spot where they are facing the reigning Stanley Cup Champion Chicago Blackhawks.

What looks like an uphill battle might end up closer than expected. The season series was split 3-2 in favor of the Blackhawks with each game being decided by only one goal. On the downside, the Predators had only been able to win when they still had Jiri Hudler, Braydon Coburn, Matt Calvert and Derek MacKenzie in the lineup - all of whom have been traded and Coburn and Calvert to the Blackhawks of all teams.

So much for the starting situation - new solutions would be required to give the Hawks some competition in the first round. And the first step is done. Heroic efforts by goaltender Devan Dubnyk and top scorer Johnny Gaudreau as well as great team defense brought the Predators a 2-1 win in game one in Chicago.

The series will be at least 5 games now and the task is still a tough one - but there is a first step and the Predators are excited to see what more this season has in store for them.
