Having barely squeaked through the first round the Oilers will now face a well rested Kings team.

Led by wily veteran GM Mike McEwan the Kings took 4 of 5 games in the regular season vs. the Oilers. The oilers only mustered a palsy 7 goals over those 5 games against the Kings.

The Kings greatest asset is the probable 2016/17 HFNHL Vezina winner Braden Holtby having lead the league in Sav%. GAA, and tied for shutouts with 9.

After staying the night in Anaheim the tired Oilers will at least not have to worry about a long flight to LA for game 1.

4-3 - that is the score of the past three games between these two teams with only one of them being in the Oilers favour.

It has been a frustrating series so far with the Oilers down 3 games to one as even though Holtby has looked average this series giving up an average of 3 goals per game the Oilers haven't capitalized on it haven given up nearly four per game themselves.

Equally frustrating has been the effectiveness of the Kings PP units. Previously considered an area of team strength the Oiler's PK unit has been uncharacteristically disorganized and has surrendered a number of goals that proved to be difference makers.

Deep in a hole and facing elimination reporters find they can only get cliche responses from players such as "we just need to take it one game at a time"

Corruption Allegations Emerge

HFNHL Oilers fans already frustrated with the elimination of their team awoke to news of a new controversy surrounding the team and it's GM.

It is being reported that GM Niece has been linked to the alias CopperAndBlue that has been betting on HFNHL playoff results. The unconfirmed report alleges that 'CopperAndBlue' had bet on the Oilers meeting, and losing to, the HFNHL Kings in the second round of the playoffs.

If true that raises the possibility GM Niece may have been throwing games intentionally.

Neither GM Niece or anyone associated with the team would speak to reporters but did issue a short release stating that the rumours were complete fabrications and that ownership was confident GM Niece had not bet on the Oilers to lose to the Kings.

LOL. I think he is safe, based on a clear lack of motive. After all, even if he wins the HFNHL playoff pool, the HFNHL $'s you get for that, are less than one playoff game's worth of revenue for his team.

So in short, only an idiot would throw games and $ millions away, to only slightly increase his chances at earning far less.

And Drew Niece is no idiot.
