The HFNHL LA Kings have traded long-time top line winger Max Pacioretty, who had been with the club for almost ten years.

Along with Pacioretty goes winger Janne Koukkanen, to the Colorado Avalanche. In exchange, the Kings have acquired goaltender Linus Ullmark and a 2021 second round draft pick.

Ullmark immediately steps in as the team's starter, while a long-time King is expected to be waived shortly in former starter Braden Holtby. If he clears, Holtby will remain with the club in a backup role but the team would certainly wish him luck and pay tribute if he were to move on.

Pacioretty's cap hit and age were contributing factors in the decision to deal him, as the team is on the outside of the playoffs looking in. A massive part of that is due to the starting goaltender position, which will get a boost with Ullmark who still has upside to having some good years ahead of him.

Holtby won back-to-back HFNHL Vezina trophy's as the league's top goaltender in 2015 and 2016, while Pacioretty was a mainstay in the top six.

Linus Ullmark becomes just the franchise's third starting goaltender in the last fourteen years following the success of Holtby and Cam Ward, who won the HFNHL Stanley Cup with LA in 2011.

You’ve enjoyed crazy good stability in net, hopefully Ullmark continues that trend.

I certainly managed to trade Pacioretty to you at exactly the wrong time!
