Yeah running wise you're probably fine, but you'll likely want to knock back the lifting. Even 5 days is a lot. As you get into more hill work and the longer distances, you're using your core and arms a TON. I was surprised by how tired my upper body was after long runs once I got into the consistent 15+ mile zone. A lot of plans recommend cross training 2-3 times a week.

I know you're super focused on your strength right now. With the marathon, that should really be your hyper focus while training. Treating your body and feeding your body to be able to cover the miles.

I'm not trying to sound like a know it all, so please don't take it that way. I'm just a little worried about you, and that you'll hurt yourself if you don't back off some. I'm sure you'll be fine, you seem to be in much better shape than me, and I'm pretty sure you're several years younger, too.

Just be careful. Training for, and running, a marathon is incredibly taxing on the body. So is the amount of time you spend on the bench. Would hate to see you get hurt.

Not at all!

I appreciate your words of wisdom.

Underrated place to get a great workout: waterparks.

Took the kiddos to Splashtown up in Saco yesterday and there were at best 100 people in the whole place (pretty sure my kids are among the only ones in New England who haven't gone back to school yet). We literally didn't wait in a line all day long from opening to close.

I haven't done that many stairs since high school wrestling.

I just accidentally went to a kickboxing class instead of a boxing class.

I am NOT coordinated enough to add in kicks. And I busted my elbow open on the seam of the bag.

Read the schedule more carefully next time, dumbass.

Had my appt to see my dr yesterday about my fatigue. She was great, listened to my concerns and symptoms, and ordered a whole battery of blood and urine tests.

Got the results back today, and I'm an incredibly healthy physical specimen (at least according to these).

While I'm happy that I'm healthy, I'm also frustrated and disappointed that it's not as "simple" as a Thyroid or vitamin deficiency. She said yesterday this was the starting point and there are other tests we can do, but I was really hoping for some answers.

Congrats on being healthy!

Probably a dumb thing to suggest but B12 is very important for me and helps if I'm taking it ....

It's frustrating when you feel off and can't get an easy or logical answer to help!!

BTW, I hit the 8 week mark on my diet plan on Sunday and this morning I was down 30.5 pounds. I know the rest won't come off as easily (or quickly - sorry Kate), but I've never been so pleased with a diet in my life. This plan is really working for me.

Nice Job.

My daughter had a bout with some blood clots earlier in the summer and she needed to change her eating habits as part of the treatment plan. Her and my wife (being supportive) started doing this Arbonne system, which stressed a balanced diet, no gluten, dairy, wheat, very little caffeine, no processed foods, and it has worked great for them. My wife has had issues with joint pain in her hands and headaches and this change has eliminated those and she has lost 12-13 pounds (a lot for her, she's fairly petite and only 5'1")

Around the same time I hit 242 pounds (heaviest I have ever been) and said enough is enough. I got a physical and blood work and everything came back good, so I started hitting the gym more and cutting back on portion sizes. About four weeks ago, I got more regimented and started going to the gym at least 4 times a week, and eliminated snacks and other bad foods. About two weeks ago I eliminated dairy, caffeine, sugar, gluten, and wheat. The first couple of days I don't think I was very nice, but now feel much better. Got on the scale the other day and I had dropped 16 pounds. I would like to be at 185 by the new year, but not going to stress as long as I continue to make progress.

Keep up the good work.

So many possibilities including idiopathic. I have little faith in AMA regulated CBP numbers. Other deficiency suspects are Vit D,Iron and most won't test for-Magnesium.

B12 and iron came back in the normal range. I'm not sure if she tested for Vitamin D.

I'm waiting to hear back from her on next steps but it's frustrating as hell.

I'd request a Vit D Hydroxy and a Magnesium. Both are ins covered. Magnesium will slip by in a lot of cases. Or you could just start taking 1000 units of Vit D a day and see if anything changes. I take 3-5000.

Hearing the talk of Vitamin D, one of the side effects of my diet plan is that I haven't had cow's milk in almost three months. I don't feel run down, but I'm now wondering if I'm at risk for anything due to not getting any vitamin D. I'll ask to have it checked at my physical, but that's not scheduled until December.

My dr told me to just take a multivitamin, as mine was low a few yrs back. Almost all have more than you need. I haven't had an issue since.

Nearly every person who has had a heart attack has had a low Vit D and/or Vit C number. The connection is not yet known. The human body got plenty of Vit D when it was running around naked. Not anymore. I haven't drank cow's milk in 4 years.

I think all of the running has paid off.

After taking a summer off from playing net, this is the first Monday after Sunday night hockey that I haven't felt like I'd been run over by a truck.

The best source of vitamin D is the sun (it doesnt surprise me many folks are deficient, including myself). We are a culture that works in the cube and stays inside to use electronics. Plus we cover up everything in fear of cancer.

Some foods that are high in D: mushrooms, oatmeal, fish, soy milk (oh look, all the foods you love)

Supplements work also. :)

I turned 32 on Monday and had my first physical exam in over six years yesterday (idiot).

Everything came back great.

I was thinking about skipping a day running, but this upcoming marathon is forcing me to stick with the running plan.

How was your inflammation, either measured by CRP or Homocysteines? Chronic inflammation is at the core of bad health,a silent (til it's not) killer.

I have hyperparathyroidism. The Parathyroid glands not working correctly. See an Endo specialist every 6 months to monitor my blood calcium. Plaque isn't an issue for me. Calcium is however.

I'm on prescribed 100K units per week Vit D and only one serving of dairy/day.

So far that's keeping my levels in check and holding off on parathyroid removal surgery. I'm monitored for tumors in any one of the 4 glands but they could change. If so, out they go and I'll look even more like Frankenstein. Ear to ear.

Officially down 35.5 lbs. Would like to lose 10-15 more before I go to Vegas in early November. had a bad day of eating yesterday, but it's nice to say I've had many more days of staying to the plan than days where I didn't.

With Vit D intake so high, have they advised you to take Vit K2 to mitigate the amount of calcium produced by high levels of Vit D?

Nope. I dont have high D levels. Actually I had only trace amount detectable.
The 2 Drs. Im with have me on the D therapy for now. I started with high blood calcium. Urine was normal. Kidney function normal. Bone density ok.

Ultrasound didnt show tumors on the glands but thats not 100% verifiable without going in.

An interesting fact that I found out only because of this is that my mother and one of my sisters has similar but not as severe issue as I do. So genetics may be in play too.

So we started at 50k/week and that had my blood calcium drop. And finally my body showed some Vit D but low. '. Which because of my family started a discussion that 'nomal' is based on curve. I/we may be outliers.

So it was ramped to 100K/ week. I have to go for quarterly blood & urine tests after 9/27. That guess is that should get my D level near normal as well as my blood calcium.

Both Drs prefer this over surgery at this time. As do I.

I was also tremendously lucky in that a poster here works in a med office for another Dr that deals just with this and sent me great info and helped confirm what my own doctors are doing.

Wow. I'm on 15000 a week of Vit D and had to start K2 to knock down the calcium. Somehow, you raise your Vit D and the blood calcium lowers. I'm gonna pass this by my medical community of research maniacs. As for genetics,I did the 23andme thing, and it's fascinating as well as very helpful in sorting out therapies.

Got a quick response. Once Vit D levels are normalized, the blood absorption of calcium increases from 40-400%. Low Vit D has an unknown link to Heart Attacks,my biggest fear right now.
