Did the Avs not keep the Nordiques' retired numbers? I'm thinking of guys like Goulet and Peter Stasney.

Edit: Nevermind, obviously if Paul is wearing #26 this year, it wasn't retired. Kind of disrespectful, in my opinion. Colorado owes its cups to a couple of original Nordiques (Sakic and Forsberg), the least they could do is honour the tradition

I seriously believe Colorado owes a lot of it's initial success to the Noridiques. When you look at things like the Lindros trade, the draft picks and other roster decisions by the Nordiques you wonder how Denver would have fared had they received any other team.

The Victoria Cougars were te last non-NHL team to win the Stanley Cup in 1925 led by Lester Patrick. They challenged the NHL Montreal Maroons in 1926 and lost.

With the folding of the league (WCHL) the rights to the Victoria Cougars were acquired by the new Detroit NHL franchise, the Detroit Cougars, who would actually play out of Windsor until the Detroit Olympia was ready the next season.

The Detroit Cougars became the Detroit Falcons who would become the Red Wings when rescued from bankruptcy by James Norris. Norris was "encouraged" to bring his rival league team from the AHL, the Chicago Shamrocks, and merge them with the NHL Falcons in a bid by the NHL to cut the legs out from under the rival AHL - it worked.

Way to make yourself look like an idiot. Next time you might want to consider making sure what you are saying is true. For starters you might want to look at Balsillie's own words. Waterloo Penguins... give it up already! The odds are better that the Sens will have a playoffs where they don't fold and they actually win the cup! The bus to fantasy land must be departing soon... :biglaugh:

Hey man, not all Sens fans think like him, and I for one agree with you that he made himself look like an idiot, so that potshot at the Sens was kind of unnecessary.

I don't think Pittsburgh is out of the woods yet, but the chances of them staying in Pittsburgh greatly outweigh any chance of a Waterloo-Kitchener team, especially since I don't think those cities can keep an NHL franchise afloat and both those cities are Leafs country since they're so close to Toronto. Although I wouldn't rule out a move to another city just yet, it still depends on the casino and the new building.
