I've watched it a billion times and I still get chills all over my body every single time.
One of the greatest athletes of all time. Period.
Quoting Tom Durkin regarding the 1998 Belmont Stakes, "If a picture is worth a thousand words, this photo is worth $5 million . . . history in the waiting.”
Same words different sensation.
I cry. Every time. I'm a pushover for stuff like this. The track announcer made it, if he had messed up the call, it would watch very differently. But, "He's moving like a tremendous machine!!" is just a classic line that you can't plan out.
Not sure if this is the best place for this, William Nack, who chronicled the life of Secretariat has passed away. I had a subscription to SI growing up and read many of his great pieces. RIP.
Veteran writer William Nack dies at 77
The entire SI collection is archived on line and you can read any article ever published by them.
They archived it about 15 years ago, and i went back to he first issue in 1957 and right now I am up to 1988. When I'm bored I'll read a few articles and then a few days later a few more. I'll probably die before i catch up
