Keep in mind these guys are a part of the Bettmans Death group of 8 ..

4. Jeremy Jacobs, Boston Bruins

Jeremy Jacobs hands down. First, he bleeds the fans by putting out a substandard product in favor of greed. But, he also owns part of the building they play in, all the concessions at the "Fleece" center, broadcasts most of the games on the cable station he partially owns, and forced one the classiest players ever to lace them up, to ask for a trade to have a shot at a ring.
To add insult to injury, he spends most of the season at his home offices in Buffalo ... a division rival!!

*more*

5. Bill Wirtz, Chicago Blackhawks

I'm biased, but "Dollar" Bill Wirtz is still the greediest owner. The Tony Amonte situation is the latest example.
Granted, Wirtz built his own stadium without fleecing taxpayers, but he also has control of all the concessions and parking. Yet no money seems to go back into the product fans are there for.

Rating Steinbrenner #1 is pathetic. If he was greedy he would have kept the payroll at 100 million dollars and walked away with an extra 100 million profit.

Georgie wants to win and thats it.

ESPN is run by a bunch of north-eastern socialists and their opinion on matters economic are lass than worthless.

Bob Ley has to be the moldiest, old-guard, Title-IX worshipping femi-male I've ever seen.

I don't normally go for the straight-up ad hominem attack but these people really bug me....

I don't see how you can cal;l Bill Witz greedy when there are owners like Lemieux who want taxpayers to given him a $270 million area virtually for free. At least Witytz pays his own way. Not like 2/3 of the NMHL owners.

The season wouldn't have been cancelled over the needs of eight teams, even if that was all that was needed to veto a deal. There are probably fewer than eight that would have given in to the NHLPA demands.

Are these two not essentially the model franchises, according to the no-cap PA? They have a budget and they stick to it.

What is Career Misconduct?

Career Misconduct exposes a series of corrupt practices by Chicago Blackhawks owner Bill Wirtz, including repeated antitrust violations, bribery of public officials, stealing from his 'niece's' trust fund, collusion against the NHL players, and the buying of special-interest legislation. In addition, the book details Bill Wirtz's greed, mismanagement, lies and civic irresponsibility as owner of the Blackhawks. The book is replete with startling, undisputed, never-before-made-public factual evidence of Wirtz's corporate mismanagement of a kind that is often rumored but seldom documented. Bill Wirtz is one of the richest men in the world, and one of the most powerful men in Chicago, but as the evidence in this book reveals, Wirtz has cynically abused his power and privilege for years. It is a story neither the Blackhawks nor Bill Wirtz want you to read. It is a story that brings into sharp focus Wirtz's commercial immorality. It is a story that proves that at least for billionaires like Wirtz crime does pay. It is a story that will turn your stomach. It is the story of Career Misconduct.

Yuppers. The hypocrisy confounds. People say "there's no need to spend, any one can just set a budget and stick to it", and when an owner does, they're attacked as greedy, cheap, and "unwilling to compete".

But Wirtz's incredible wealth and status is only part of the story. The purpose of this book is to document Bill Wirtz's repeated acts of corruption, criminality, and lies. Taken as a whole, the book reveals an undeniable and startling pattern of corruption and lawlessness, including repeated violations of the antitrust laws, bribery, political payoffs, perjury, theft, collusion against NHL players, and monumental greed. For many readers, the exposure of Wirtz's criminality will not be a big surprise. Few businessmen anywhere have as bad a public reputation as Bill Wirtz, and thus much of what I reveal in this book will only serve to confirm what many already suspect about the man. But even if I am preaching to the converted, I hope the specific details of lawbreaking and corruption will serve to solidify the suspicions that already exist about Wirtz. It's enough if this book simply confirms that what people "know" about Wirtz is, in fact, true.

Ta,

Yeh.. try again. The list with Steinbrenner at #1 wasn't a writer's list, but a write in list.. by the fans. But then again, because they don't agree with you the opinion must be worthless, right?

If he's breaking laws, then arrest him, press charges, convict him, and throw him in jail. Should be simple, since there are so many crimes to choose from, eh?

Until then, these are baseless accusations.

Seems like it. And the fact that these accusations appear in a self-published book doesn't do much to add to their credibility.

Please. Do everyone a favor. I'd be happy to be rid of Wirtz.

He souns like the modern day Al Capone ..he is running the Chicago Mafia .. He is well connected ... He owns the Chicago Police Department

Elliott Ness you arrest him .. The article says he is worth ..

"All told, even a conservative estimate of Wirtz's assets brings them to between $3 - $4 billion".

That is twice the Revenue of the whole NHL last season ..

If only we can get a New CBA in place to help him out .. I mean all these Anti-trust and embezzling and money laundering Court Cases cost money

and he makes Jeremy Jacobs Boston's owner look like and Angel ..

You can buy the book its in stores everywhere : http://careermisconduct.com/

Thats why the NHLPA should negotiate safe guards against cheats like this.

I also dont agree with an Owner dipping into his personal bankroll or the revenue of another business just to pay his NHL players. NHL players should ONLY be paid with the revenues that the NHL brings in and they should not expect Owners to dip into there other non hockey related incomes.

After reading the Wirtz poverty story of only $ 4 Billion ... Well ..Now I understand why the owners locked out the players and we have no hockey ..and why 80% of the fans feel sorry for him ..

I mean poor guy how is he going to feed his family on that .. ??
