His three year contract (3 years, $2.067M per year, $6.2M total) is up this year. He has only played 56 games under his new contract over the last 2 seasons, so $110K per game played will be the final cost of this extension.

Good point. Some variables might do into how much they would get out of insurance, and whether there would have limitations on the claims after the first back surgery.
