Goodenow being pushed aside?

Neither NHL commissioner Gary Bettman nor NHLPA boss Bob Goodenow attended the five-hour session yesterday. Goodenow won't be on hand for today's session, but Bettman could be there.

From this Garrihack article .

With acknowledgment of the questionable source, does anyone feel that this development (if true) signals the beginning of the end of Bob's run with the PA?

Interestingly, the Ottawa version of the article contained a different version of the paragraph in question.

Neither NHL commissioner Gary Bettman nor NHLPA boss Bob Goodenow attended the five-hour session yesterday, and they aren't expected to attend today's session -- which will be held in Toronto.

No.

Because GFG has no idea what he's talking about.
How so?

He seems to have done pretty well for his employers over the past 12 years and has yet to lose a face-off with the NHL.

He has a much better grasp of hockey than Bettman having been a pro as well as player agent. He has worked as a lawyer for management in labour negotiations (Unisys). He has grown the NHLPA revenues and transformed it into a very efficient and professionally run orgagnization that has manged to out-maneuver the NHL thus far.

You believe in penalizing excellence??? How very socialist of you.

Oh from the players POV Goodenow is the best thing that ever happened to them. He increased their salaries a tremendous amount. He should be fired because he is ruining the game in doing so, and the players should recognize that.

The problem is not that there isn't a deal to be made but that the two heads of the owners and players have such animosity that they don't want to negotiate a deal. I think after this is over both Betman and Goodenow have to go. Get different people in there that are progressive thinkers, and maybe we'll never have a situation that is this bad again.

I believe GFG stands for "Go Flames Go", the over zealous PRO-Cap flames fan.

I'm 100% in agreement with you. I was referring to Go Flames Go.

Since it would have to be his employers (i.e. the players) who fire him, that is unlikely to happen since he has done what he was hired to do.

Goodenow has served the PA well in the past.

His performance in this negotiation is likely to cost him his job.

The same could be said for Bettman.

Then again, Bettman could have been fired for several other things long before this as well. Maybe the owners really are just clueless.

I fully expect Bettman to get the golden parachute after the deal is signed in order to help the league sell the product.

It would be the first sensible thing the owners have done in years

I'd argue that finally figuring out how to weild their leverage, as displayed by their conduct in this dispute, was very sensible.

Was that where this paragon of worker's rights broke the local Teamsters?
