I'm flying down to Charlotte for the weekend tomorrow and was wondering if anyone knows of a store where I could pick up Canes and/or Checkers gear. Definitely want some hats, maybe a jersey if they have the previous style or the alternate.

You're not going to find Canes gear in Charlotte, believe me I've looked. The only time I saw something was a youth Eric Staal jersey during the 2009 playoffs at Dicks Sporting Goods.

But yeah, the Checkers operate their headquarters in the EpiCenter and have a team store right when you walk in.

I don't even think you can find hockey gear in Charlotte. Granted, the last time I looked was about 8 years ago, but I went to several Sports Authority and Dick's locations around town and came up completely empty. Back then at least, there were no dedicated hockey shops. That may have changed since then, but I'd be kind of surprised if so.

i've seen some random Canes/Checkers gear at Xtreme Ice Center in Indian Trail. Granted, this was a few years ago, and they may not have anything there now since I think the Checkers no longer practice there since Bojos area was finished.

I would think the pro shops at the rinks in Pineville and Indian Trail would have a few jerseys on sale or something. But it's pretty slim pickings in Charlotte, after all you're talking about finding outlets for AHL merchandise and NHL merchandise for a team 3 hours away.

EpiCentre 4th floor is the Checkers Den, that will be the extent of Hockey stuff pretty much in Charlotte minus specialize stores with hockey equipment.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I never got to go to the Epicenter. I was in Charlotte at my one friend's place for less than a day, then we went to our other friend's in Winston-Salem for the rest of the weekend. I did find some Canes gear in the Charlotte airport. No hats, shirts that were way too big for me, lanyards, pucks, beer glasses, pencils, and other odds and ends.

NC is beautiful. I gotta add moving down there to my to do list. Having an NHL team there is icing on the cake. I'd be a convert though, no old loyalties. I wish it was still hockey season because my friend in Charlotte lives 2 minutes away from Bojangles Coliseum. Would have loved to see a Checkers game.

And holy crap, I love Waffle House! I've never heard of that, being from NY. That was the most delicious hangover breakfast I've ever had!

Did you get to try any Bo's while you were down here? I was a skeptic when I moved down here ~20 years ago but man, do they do breakfast right down here.
