News/Notes:
  • The LA Kings lost in a shootout against the Arizona Coyotes after coming back down 3 goals to force overtime. The Kings thought they had won it in overtime, but was called back for goalie interference.
  • The Detroit Red Wings lost Monday night 5-3 against the Sharks with goals coming from Zetterberg, Nyquist and Daley. Jimmy Howard was in goal allowing 4 goals on 33 shots.
  • The Kings current record when giving up the first goal is 18-23-4 while the Red Wings are 6-23-3. While the Kings may have the best record in the NHL when giving up the first goal, they have given up the first goal in 45 games out of 70 games played this year. When the Kings score first, they are 20-3-2
  • Anze Kopitar has hit the 70-point plateau for the seventh time in his career (28-48=76). He is just the third player in Kings history to have recorded at least seven seasons with 70+ points (Luc Robitaille, 11 seasons; Marcel Dionne, 12 seasons; Bernie Nicholls, 7 seasons). He is also among just 24 players to hit the 70-point mark in franchise history overall. This season, he has more than doubled his goal production from last season (12 goals) and surpassed his assists (40) and points total from last year (51). He is three assists shy of tying a career-high set in 2011-12 (51) and is five points away from tying a career-high set in 2009-10 (34-47=81).
  • Since missing 55 games, Jeff Carter has tallied eight points in nine games in his return from injury (6-2=8), Feb. 24-Mar. 13. He has recorded points in all but three games, including a three-game goal streak and his first multi-goal game of the season. In that time period, he is tied for eighth in the league in goals (6; first on the team) and tied for second in PPG (3) and SHG (1)

OK Kings. The hockey gods have stated many times that a team DOES NOT have to wait until the last day of the season to ensure a playoff birth. Beating up on a bad team (Detroit) is OK too. So, starting tonight let's get on a hot streak and finish the season strong.

if we get 2 or less points in consecutive games vs. Adin Hill and Jared Coreau, may as well start packing for the offseason.

Kings need to forget about all these jinxes and whatnot and play like the team that is one of only four teams in NHL history to overcome an 0-3 deficit to win a seven game playoff series. Different team? Kopitar, Carter, Brown, Toffoli, Pearson, Clifford, Lewis, Doughty, Martinez, Muzzin, Quick. Let's go boys! Wee iz da em-ef-in' LOS ANGELES KINGS.
