I've been saying for a while now I'm happy if he takes a Tarasenko deal.

Kid tied for 6th in scoring in his second NHL season and had a rookie season where he was the runner up for the Calder with 64 points in his first season.

Anything under the Tarasenko deal is just gravy if we can lock him up for that term.

Very good player but 8M a year is a bit high for a kid that couldn't score away from the favorable match on home ice no?

I don't see the Flames paying him that much right now.

To play devil's advocate, that was FAR earlier into negotiations.

That being said, if they meet in the middle then it's more than fair.

Yeah, but I also wouldn't expect Johnny to come 2.5m down (like Gio) from his initial ask.

He comes down about a million, Flames go up about a million, they meet somewhere in the neighborhood of 7m. If anything this is good news IMO.

What are the chances the flames let him walk at that price? He's the best player they've had probably ever.

I don't know how Calgary is going to be able to fit in everyone in a few years.

No idea how they figure they could add Russell as well.

Why? Get ready to fork over 15 million for mcdavid when the time comes.

Smiling now?

Except McDavid will be the face of hockey. He will make his money through endorsements. 8M/yr on a second contract is a lot for Gaudreau
