Here's my take on tonight's game from inside PNC arena

--pick a seat. Listed attendance 7892. Half of that would be much closer to actual fans present

--watching the linesman throw a player out of the face off circle nearly every time is nauseating.

--weather in Raleigh was 12 degrees above normal for this time of year today, humidity off the charts, thus the puck bouncing like a basketball after the first 6-7 minutes of each period..

--All 6 D men where good, Gabriel Carlsson played well and the sky is the limit. He's a giant with a long reach like Jones. He and Murray are a really strong 3rd pairing, played better than Johnson/Savard tonight.

--I haven't seen a replay, but watching it live the boarding Pesce drew against Foligno was bullshit, he turned at the last minute knowing Foligno couldn't get stopped to make it look much worse than it was, Foligno did all He could to pull up before He hit him

--good to see 77 back with the team.

--Matt Calvert played like Matt Calvert

--I was more of a threat to score from my seat than Wennberg was on the ice.

--Panarin is gripping the stick too hard, some Canes fans/good southern friendly people were laughing at me because I was celebrating a goal before he even shot the puck that hit the post

--Bjork was invisible, I think he'll be fine He may be a player who needs to find the right line and stick with it....but many more games like tonight and he will be losing ice time fast.

--You can not appreciate how strong Pierre-Luc Dubois is until you see him play in person, he wasn't great tonight. had couple bad turnovers, but when He gets used to the speed at this level and makes better decisions He is going to be a force, I see him spending a lot of time in "the blue."

--have to win more face offs. Pitiful tonight (39%)

--Couple of poster's felt Hannikainen sent the puck high enough just a bad break. it looked clearly to me like He was trying to hit the empty net, He had plenty of time to get it higher, it was a bad play.....in the end they still got 2 points, lesson learned.

--how in the f*** does Aho miss the net by 4 feet on the 3-1 in overtime. He had time and space. Thought for sure game was over there.

--happy to Milano off to a great start, shows what hard work in the off season can do. I may be the only poster on here but I say slow down on moving him up to the top line.......if they do that he's going to play against the other teams top line and top D pair. He's doing fine right where's He's at, why move him? 9-10-13-17-28 need to produce more. Leave Milano on the 2nd-3rd line.

--both goalies were tremendous. Great pick up for Canes getting Darling, He's a starting NHL goalie, not backup.

--Jackets only play in Raleigh twice, so if my recap of the games here really bothers you it only happens 1 more time this year.

And you have a hell of a D! And that mothe****er Skinner!!! :)

It was incredible how evenly matched these two teams are. Seemed like nearly every inch of ice was contested, every pass challenged going both ways. I think they are probably the two hardest working teams in the league. I remember thinking that last year too.

We played Minnesota in our only other game so far and scored 4 goals (5th was in a shootout) and it didn't look particularly hard, and I would consider Minnesota a pretty good team. It says a lot about your team that we had to scratch and claw for 59 minutes just to get one goal. That Bobrovsky is something else too.

Going to have to see how Milano does over 82 games, but what a nice start for him. Bob saved our bacon again. Carolina is a very good team and if Darling plays all season like he did last night, look out. Hopefully the fans in Carolina realize they have a good team and start showing up. As good as the CBJ have been since the start of last season, I am still curious to see our attendance figures for the Mon-Thurs games. I think they will be better, but we will see how many of those we sell out, especially during football season.

While the OT style of play was skewed because of the PP, the last 30 seconds reminded me of the early OT periods when 3 on 3 was first introduced. It was wide open skating and end-to-end action.

Over time it's too often become a game of keep-away with teams unwilling to take a chance on losing possession. I suspect it's an inverse style than originally anticipated by the league when 3 on 3 was introduced. While I understand coaches' desire for controlled action, I miss the excitement of the free skating style.

Now last night was great after the PK - on the heels of a rush heading to our end, a turnaround and breakaway game-winning my goal by the good guys!

Filatov looked great in his first games too.

Offensively, yes. Milano blows him out of the water as far as a complete package of you are comparing them as rookies.

But I do agree on putting the brakes on the hype. It's only a few games, but he seems to be a great replacement to Gagner.

If like 99% of posters are saying let's hold off anointing/pump the brakes/temper the hype on Sonny, who is it that's actually anointing/speeding/hyping?
most of columbus fan are experienced in the art of watching bust :\ so getting hype is hard

I suppose he did. He also hadn't spent as much time developing in as good a system as the organization has now compared to Milano.
How much time did filatov even spend in the minors? This is what Milanos 3rd year in the system? I saw last night on NHLN on the fly that Milano is on Pace for 102 goals lol so yeah pump the brakes but I still think he could be a stud. His confidence is soaring and as long as he's not facing the top lines I think he can thrive. He's also got the whole youth thing going for him over Gagner which probably caused his midseason stall.

It's just a bad comparison. These aren't even Milano's first games with the Jackets, so it's off from the get-go. But even allowing that, the comparison sucks. Comparing Milano to Filatov makes only a little more sense than comparing Milano to Adam Foote.

"Let's not get too excited about Sonny. Don't forget, Foote had a chartered jet on the runway at Port Columbus."

What does that mean? I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt here.

In my opinion, Jarmo and John Davidson have done a couple things to truly distance this organization from its past. They have moved the top farm team much closer to Columbus for the specific purpose that hockey operations can be more directly involved in the development aspects of the prospects. While the Asst. GM might have been "in charge" of the minor league team, they actually have some accountability in that role. The Asst GM is the GM of minor league club. The results rest at his door step.

Sending players like Sonny Milano, Pierre-Luc Dubois, Alexander Wennberg, and Vitali Abramov back to junior or the AHL club has been the right decision in almost every case. Maybe you enjoyed watching guys like Dan Fritche and having Steve Konroyd or Jeff Rimer slobber all over the "Parma native's" on-ice play, but I didn't.

They have also standardized all the language up and down the organization. What gets called one thing in Columbus gets called the same thing in Cleveland. You might not think that is a big deal, but I do. The team has invested in very knowledgeable and high skilled specialists. Nelson Ayotte and his training routines is making a difference not only in Columbus, but in the minor leagues. Kenny McCudden is a well respected skating coach. Watch some of this YouTube training video's when he was with the Chicago Vipers and think about the muscle memory he is creating and how that will translate to skills in game. Have you ever gone to early days of prospect camp or the early days of on-ice work before games start? What I saw that man doing in creative drills cannot help but make that team better over time.

I'm not sure what was behind your post. For me....this team is finally, finally, finally doing the right things when it comes to player development.

He will be lucky to get 70 once other teams figure him out and other guys on the jackets get going.

The last jackets player to do what Milano has done(4 goals in his first 3 games to start the season) was Husselius, he ended that season with 14 goals.
