He plays for a bad team in the Q (Chicoutimi). Its probably the best goalie from Finland since Tuuka Rask. He's a very athletic, always very consistent, a good leader, has a magical glove, never yell on his ice time, competes often harder than the others and never let down. His strides are excellent sliding realy well post to post. He's just 6"1", 198 pds. Actually, he's the best keeper of the league and he still splits his time with Robin Gusse because the Sags want to trade Gusse for a top 6 forward during the season. Gusse supposed to be the 1st goalie this year, but he's small and struggles a lot.

Nobody places Gibson in their ranking, but this guy could be the best goalie on the 2011 draft. Just watch him and you will like him. I saw him only 4 times this year, but its probably enough to write a post here. This guy diserves more attention and could be a steal in the draft if everybody continue to ignore him.

6'0'' and 180 lbs might be closer to the truth.

He might not even be the most promising 2011 draft eligible goalie from Finland since Samu Perhonen and Richard Ullberg are good prospects as well. Both are 6'3'' tall modern butterfly goalies with good athleticism.

6"1" 198 pds and I've seen 6"1" also on a poster at Marc Gagnon's arena

I have never seen Perhonen and Ullberg, maybe you're right but if these guys are better than Gibson, that means they are 1st round stuff. Gibson is extremely underated and unknown

I'd really like to see Gibson play this year(draft year) because I'm quite sure he'll be a big Finnish goaltender-name in the future. I hope he'll be chosen to the U20's but I'm afraid the coaching staff don't have the balls to put in an unknown kid... Ortio and Aittokallio are probably ahead of him in the coaches eyes but I doubt they're much better than him.

I must say that Gibson doesn’t look that big without his goalie gear, but we’ll know the truth when he’s weighed and measured at the combine.

I’m not saying that they are better than Gibson, because he’s clearly the most advanced of these three at the moment. Perhonen and Ullberg are mid-round prospects, they are far from safe bets but have a high upside, possibly even higher than Gibson.

Gibson isn’t an unknown kid for the coaching staff. He attended the U20 test camp in May and played at the Summer Hockey Challenge in early August against Sweden and USA. Also the U20 goalie coach Lasse Sampakoski knows him from last spring’s WU18C’s where Gibson was the back-up, because Aittokallio got injured just before the tournament.

big fan of him. could argue he's been the best goalie in the Q this year. playing on a very young and weak chicoutimi team.

i was told before their october ranking that Gibson wasn't even rank in redline ranking wich was a big shocker to me. i don't know if he's rank in their october report but their Q scout must not be watching the same gibson that i have been watching since last year.

best Q goalie prospect available this year imo ahead of Honzik, Makarov and Gusse

Just beacause he playes in NA he is considered the best since Rask??

Just look at the talent finland has in the goal. He was 3rd goal keeper in finnish u18 last year.

There are a number of better goalkeepers in older generations too.

not because in plays in NA, but how well he performs here in a weak team. I dont know a lot about all the others Fins keepers, but what Gibs does right now is more than good and he should diserves more NHL scouts around him. For me, he's special and could turn into a realy good NHL goalie. I dont know how many goalies could support his team like he does and this at any level. Robin Gusse is maybe not a top goalie but definitly not a bad one and he's unable to win a game in the same team. Gibs has more wins than lost and if he continues that way, I will not be surprised to see him starter of Team Finland at the next WJC.... maybe not but possible.

2 others games for Gibson since my last post and he continues to perform realy well:

Friday: 2-1 win vs Baie-Comeau with 21 saves.

Wednesday: he stops dangerous scorers like Sean Couturier, Ondrej Palat and others from Drummondville in a 3-2 win with 35 saves.

1- Christopher Gibson 11 starts, 2.14, 6-3-1-1, 336 shots 312 saves, 0.929
2- Robin Gusse 6 starts, 4.10, 0-4-1-1, 186 161, 0.866

A wonderful goalie in a team unable to play for .500

one last thing guys: if the scouts dont do their job on him, he will be the next goaltender of the Chicago's Hawks. Marc Bergevin should be hot on him. Im pretty sure of that...

I've seen him a lot and if the Finns think he isn't good enough to be on the U20 team, Finland will have the best goaltenders of the tournament. Olivier Roy is considered as the #1 for Canada and I think Gibson is better than Roy.

Like that would be new for an international tournament. :naughty:

We have Ortio and Aittokallio, who are both more experienced and higher valued than Gibson. Gibson is our 3rd goalie.

Coach Richard Martel told the same thing initially. Robin Gusse supposed to be the 1st goalie at the beginning of the year and many people saw Gusse like the best goalie prospect of the Q. IMO Gibson was good last year and was already better than Gusse but no one got the official 1st spot. It was 1a-1b. This year, he seems better on everything he was good and its tough to find a weakness. Im surprised that the Fins are not high on him. If you're unable to see him, just wait for the WJC and you will understand us. Gibs has a bad performance vs Halifax recently, but it was his only bad game.

Christopher Gibson Chicoutimi 16games, 484 shots (2nd), 2 blanks (2nd), 2.20 (3rd), 0.928 (1st), 7-6-1-2

Gibson had a chance of showing his abilities with the U20 national team in early August against Sweden and USA, and it didn't go too well. Therefore I think that it's still uncertain whether he makes the final WJC's team or not. Ortio and Aittokallio are pretty good goalies as well and they have more international experience. They have also played some games in SM-liiga this season, which certainly is more challenging than playing in the Q. Gibson’s only clear advantage is that he’s better accustomed to the NA game.

I love how positive he is... Seems like a good guy... He'll get drafted certainly... He's been doing good at the NA game and who really cares how he does internationally... Yeah that may hurt his stock but with goaltenders it doesn't really matter where they get picked...

I'd say it's 3rd-5th round for him...

interesting!!! I dont follow the SM too much. Of course, the level is better than the Q but Gibson has maybe an advantage on these guys: Chicoutimi is one of the badest team of the Q and turnovers spécialists. Gibson is busy all night long and saves his team match after match. That said, the better advantage for Ortio and Aittokallio is their age. Generally, the teams choose the olders players in their team and we dont find a lot of draft eligible players in the Top team. Will see! Maybe it was just a bad U20 camp for Gibs.... **** happens!
