Ron Francis out as Carolina Hurricanes general manager
Remains on as President of Hockey Operations.
He actually did it
Interesting. Dundon seemed much more positive with his comments about Peters than Francis, but I must say, I didn't expect this. Usually the Coach gets the axe first.
Fired by promotion?
Not really as the new GM won't report to him.
Unsurprisingly they gave him a graceful move to a made-up position.
Interesting that this was leaked directly to DeCock, not announced by the team.
How much money can Dundon throw at Queneville?
Which one of you is Dundon?
If a promotion keeps him away from player personnel decisions then absolutely! Promote him!
Should've just fired him.
But I guess thats too bad for PR and the old boys club going on throughout the league
At least for now... will be interested to see who we hire
[MOD] It happened. I don't know what to think right now. Did being too conservative do him in?
No ****ing way. Peters stays, but Francis goes? I would have given Francis another off-season with real money to spend.
It could be a lot of things. Could be Dundon just wanted his "own guy" to run the show. Could be he and Francis didn't see eye to eye so they figured it wasn't going to work. Could be Dundon didn't think he did a good job. Will be interesting to see if anything comes out.
Wow it happened. Deep inside I was kinda leaning towards Bill to be let go. But something had to be done, kinda sad that Francis didn't work out during his tenure as GM.
Anyone know any prospective GM's?
Dundon ain't f*in around
Can't imagine that Peters is long for this team either. A new GM may want to bring in his own coach.
Can we get rid of Peters as well then, if not now then in off-season? If we are starting from a clean slate, let's do it correctly with all parties involved.
Never been a big fan of Ron's. I loved him as a player, and thankful for the good moves he did make, but it's time to get this team off the fence. Dundon is going to get results, and I couldn't be happier about this news.
Interesting. I liked prettt much everything he did is his tenure. I can only assume that at the end of the day, Dundon felt it necessary to procure a big game hunter.
Friedman said RF and Dundon didn't see eye to eye.
Will have to see who's brought in before I can say one way or the other on this, but not a fan of this on face value.
That's not a surprise. Francis was preaching patience in a big way and given that NOTHING was done at the deadline I'm not surprised that Dundon was hyper-reactionary on this. The thing I don't like is that we have a guy that's a total ****ing hockey neophyte making the decision on who the next GM is going to be. I mean that would be like having me decide who qualifies for the Candidates Tournament to determine who takes on Magnus Carlsen at the next World Championship.
bring back brian burke
Im guessing new GM immediately fires Peters. Francis simply didn't have what it takes to make the big tough decisions.
Might as well wait to see who get a fired next month across the NHL. Such as Quenneville....
