Not following you on this one MXD... Its my understanding that he was notified to report to an enlistment office in 1941 but was rejected for service for physical reasons having broken an ankle in 1940 while playing hockey in the Quebec Senior League that hadnt healed properly. Earlier he'd quit school at 16 (came from a large family of 7, needed the income) and was working as an Apprentice Machinist with his father, then tried to enlist yet again as an "Army Machinist" however as he lacked a High School Diploma; the military once again rejected him.... so.... rather than knife fighting Nazi's or working in vital industry, he took his beaten & battered body, dragging his busted up ankle behind him like Quasimodo along Rue Sainte-Catherine to the Forum (through 6' snowdrifts in a whiteout - minus 40) and joined the Montreal Canadiens... where... he proceeded to lay waste to the entire league.
