The Florida Panthers announced the acquisition of a big name forward this morning at a press conference. General Manager Brock Otten announced that the club has traded young winger Marek Svatos and the clubs 1st round draft pick at next years draft in exchange for star winger Patrik Elias.

Svatos, lead all rookies in goals scored during the 2006-07 HFNHL season and recently signed a 3.6 million dollar contract extension over 2 years. Elias put up 80 points for the Sharks last season, finishing second in team points behind Peter Forsberg.

"This is a very big move for us," said GM Otten, "We've been on the look out for a scoring partner for Shane Doan, now we've found our match. While it hurts to lose a young, skilled player like Marek, Patrik is much more complete and we hope that he can score just as much. He also brings veteran leadership to our still relatively younger team. We are overjoyed."

Elias was reached by telephone and had this reaction to the trade. "It sounds like a nice fit for me. While they did finish near the basement last season, the team is solid and should be much better next year. I hope to be a big part of that," said Elias.
