The team is not underperforming, they're performing about as well as you'd expect given the goaltending.
Last year, they had top ten goaltending and slipped into the playoffs, this year the goaltending is bottom five and they're in the middle of the pack.
Therefore, the coach isn't underperforming.
It's that simple.

And you really think that the increase in goals against can be 100% attributed to a drop off in goaltending performance?

You are aware that overall team play and defensive breakdowns factor into goals against, correct?

You really think that goaltending alone is enough to drop a team from 13th overall in 5v5 Goal Differential to 29th overall?

Or from 16th in Overall Goal Differential to 25th?

Yes. If you look at aggregate E +/-, we're significantly BETTER than last season.
That is, we're getting better shots/giving up fewer high percentage shots than last year.
The goalies are allowing shots they didn't last season, and as a result Hakstol became more conservative.

They were having trouble scoring last year, but eventually the shot % started evening out, the Washington game is a good example, they had enough good shots to score 2-3 goals against most teams most nights.

The real problem is this team isn't good enough to win with below average goalies - which everyone knows, the bottom 3 defensemen and the bottom six forwards are marginal at best. And you can run a parade of coaches in and out, and other than a short-term bounce, nothing will change until the talent changes.

The thing I like about Haks is that he's looked at a few changes that make complete and simply fundamental sense like moving Schenn to the RW, or Voracek to the LW, and putting a Ghost in the trigger spot across from G in our chosen powerplay configuration.

What I don't like about Haks is that despite having immediate and noticeable success in making these changes, he would not stick to them. Among many other flaws.
