Gents, have a review to make sure I didn't miss anyone or make a mistake with your team's deals.

Matt, perhaps you can make this a sticky so GMs can monitor these deals throughout the season?

Blues Endorsements at the Quarter Poll...

1/ TSN Deal (85% capacity): The Blues are currently averaging 19,670 fans per game, or 93.66% of capacity.

2/ KOHO (Home ice first round of playoffs): The Blues currently lead their division and sit in third place in the conference, however are only 2 points out of falling to sixth place.

3/ GM (.500 or better road record): The Blues currently have a 11-1 road record, and are already half way to the 21 win total required to achieve this milestone. The Blues are only 2-5-1 at home however.

4/ PowerAde (20 goals or more from a player 25 years or younger): Joe Thornton (13), Dany Heatley (7) and Vincent Lecavalier (5) are all currently on pace to score 20 goals.

It seems if the Blues can stay in the top 4 in the West, they have a very good chance of achieving all 4 endorsements, resulting in a cash payout of $13,000,000.

Of Note and as previously discussed (but since erased on the message board), the Mountain Dew Award has been amended to include all players 21 years of age or under as of Sept 30, 2003. Previously, it had been 20 years of age.

Additional adjustments to player age and performance levels may be considered next year.

Question about the Mountain Dew award, for defensemen with 30 or 40 points shouldn't one of them be NCAA and the other AHL?

Blue Jackets sponsorship update

CD - Ottawa

The visitors were once again the victors as Columbus won the back end of a home-and-home with Eastern Conference-contending Ottawa. The Sens had embarrassed the Jackets 5-1 at the Nationwide Centre the night before, but the plucky Jackets picked themselves up and came back with a strong 5-3 win that saw all four lines contribute on the scoresheet. The win moved the Jackets past idle San Jose for 5th overall in the West.

After going down 3-1 after 20 minutes, the Sens were unable to convert on two second-period powerplays and found themselves trailing by 3 going into the third. The powerful Ottawa squad poured it on, though, scoring two goals early in the third to close the gap to two and shelling Martin Brodeur with 15 shots in the final 20 minutes. Phillippe Boucher soon put the game out of reach, however, cruising in from the point to net his fourth.

Mike York, who had his 14-game point streak broken in the 5-1 loss to Ottawa, didn't waste any time getting back in the groove with an assist on Boucher's goal. York has been simply dynamite centering Brendan Shanahan since the big winger was acquired (Shanahan had two assists on the night). The near-instant chemistry the two players demonstrated has been a big factor – along with Brodeur – in the Jackets' climb up the standings.

York's assist last night certainly made Jackets GM Doug Emerson a happy man, and not just because it represented one of the young stars of his team continuing to add to a career-high performance. The helper was 25-year-old York's 35th helper on the year, and that milestone triggered a sponsorship deal with Gatorade that will see the team earn $2.5 million in advertising from Pepsi, the company that produces the sports beverage.

York, on being told of the news, quipped: "What can I say? I have IT in me! Now excuse me while I mop some fluorescent sweat from my brow... Seriously, getting to play 20 minutes a night beside a player like Shanny, he's just so smart and so tough that he knows how to get into position and get open– all I have to do is get him the puck and he does the rest. Honestly, it’s just about the easiest job I've ever had – I can't believe they pay me for it!"

In other sponsorship news:

Mountain Dew Award:

Moncton Wildcats goalie Corey Crawford was awarded the Ford Cup as QMJHL Defensive Player of the Year. Crawford, a Blue Jackets second-round pick in 2003, was recognized for his consistently strong performance throughout the 2003-04 season. His 2.62 gaa was second among starters (those goalies who appeared in at least half of their team's regular-season games), as was his .919 save%. Pepsi announced that Crawford will be recognized with a Mountain Dew award for individual performance by an HFNHL prospect - a deal worth $1 million for Columbus.

Interestingly, the goalie who edged out Crawford in both statistical categories, Cape Breton Screaming Eagle starter Martin Houle (2.32 gaa/.921 save%), is also a Blue Jackets prospect, but as he was acquired by the Jackets after the start of the season he did not qualify for the Mountain Dew award. LW Noah Clarke was an All-Star in his AHL rookie season, but is too old to earn to qualify under the terms of the sponsorship arrangement. Defenceman Joni Pitkanen played himself into a top-4 spot on the NHL Philadelphia Flyers' roster, and while his performance has him garnering some Calder consideration, he didn't spend enough time in the minors to qualify for a Mountain Dew award. (Something tells me neither Pitkanen nor the Blue Jackets mind in the slightest, as the young Finn is expected to be a major contributor to the team next season...).

ABC Sports Television:

In order to trigger a bonus clause in their broadcast deal with ABC Sports television, the Blue Jackets needed to maintain an average of 80% occupancy at the Nationwide Centre. As things stand now, they are sitting at 81.66%, and with a schedule that sees eight of the team's remaining nine home dates played against Divisional rivals playing better-than-.500 hockey, it's a safe bet that the Jackets will be collecting on the $2.5 million bonus.

Synergy Team Award:

At the start of the season, the Blue Jackets committed to improve on last year's disappointing 74-point season by at least 20 points in 2003-04. A bold goal, but one worth $2.5 million for the franchise if they make it thanks to a sponsorship deal with composite stick manufacturer Synergy, so there's lots of motivation. GM Doug Emerson wasted little time stacking the deck to improve his team's chances, acquiring proven veterans like Jeremy Roenick, Niklas Sundstrom and Adrian Aucoin along with the aforementioned York, Shanahan and Brodeur in an effort to raise the team's performance.

After a sluggish start that saw the Jackets floating around the .500 mark (or an 82-point season), they've really begun to turn it on of late, and now the Jackets’ 77 points in 65 games has them on pace to finish the season with 97 points - a 23-point improvement on last season. Say hello to $2.5 million, boys…

But wait, there's more (as they say in TV-land): if the Jackets, who are 7-2-1 in their last 10, can reach 104 points (a 30 point improvement on 2002-03), they earn an additional $1 million. If they ride their current hot streak through their remaining games, the Jacets would earn 102 points – just one win shy of the 104 point milestone.

It will be tough sledding, however. The team's remaining games are all against Pacific Division rivals, and only two - both against Colorado - have the Jackets playing a sub-500 team. The schedule includes three more dates with the Sharks, who are currently jostling with Columbus for 5th overall in the West, and four and five games respectively against Anaheim and Los Angeles. Both teams are leading Columbus in the standings.

So if the Jackets can keep it up, they may find themselves not only reaching their 104-point target but also winning the division. However, with such a top-heavy schedule ahead of them, they could just as easily find themselves barely hanging on to a post-season berth.

In other words, for the Blue Jackets the playoffs start now.

CD - Calgary

This evening, Columbus took advantage of a Flames team that was without starter Roberto Luongo, (scratched for personal reasons). The Jackets opened the game with an unanswered 6-goal outburst (including a hat-trick from LW Geoff Sanderson) and cruised to a season-high 9-3 victory. The Jackets chased starter Jeff Hackett with 5 goals on only 10 shots in the first 14 minutes, and then gave Flames third-stringer Andrew Raycroft a rough ride through the remainder of the game, beating him four times on 22 shots.

One big difference for the Jackets tonight was special teams. The league's worst power play, which has produced at a sub-7% rate this year, finally tallied for not one but two goals on four chances (moving it out of the HFNHL basement, and also over the 7% line). And a penalty-killing squad in the bottom half of the league managed to hold the Flames to just one goal in six opportunities. If the Jackets hope to go anywhere in the playoffs, they'll need their special teams to show up with more performances like this.

Correct Rich - Mountain Dew is only for regular season.

In terms of finalizing things, I'm waiting until the end of the first round before sending out an announcement to begin submissions of your achievements (documented with referenced statistics etc.). There is one deal that is contigent on teams advancing beyond the first round, and Detroit, Boston and Washington all signed up for that deal (no pressure boys).

I'm also assuming - in line with Drew's post in response to Josh - that a separate page will be set-up for playoffs, all regular seasons stat will remain viewable well into the summer, but I've saved all the stats, finance and scoring pages just in case for reference. I'd suggest you do the same or do your research now to see whether you've got any cash coming in.

Gents,

It is time for the submission of your Endorsement deals if you were able to achieve one or more of them this season.

IMPORTANT NOTE: It is the obligation of the General Manager submitting to provide ALL of the details on the achievement of the required milestone, including all calculations and links to support the claim. So you will have to show the calculation for things like attendance %.

For the Mountain Due Award, the General Manager should quote the exact milestone achieved, (i.e. "Forward with more than 40 points in the AHL") as well as a link to the player's statistics, which includes a date of birth within their bio. I recommend the use of http://www.hockeydb.com/ihdb/stats/players.html, and be sure to use the exact link to your player's statistics (or article noting award they won) within your submission. For league interest sake, I also ask you place the details of your submission within the message board.

For reference, I will provide my submission as an example, and all general managers should follow this format:

The St. Louis Blues achieved all four milestones this season:

1. TSN “Total Sports Network†Deal
Criteria: Team must finish the regular season with an average attendance of 85% capacity. Cost Fee: $1,500,000 Revenue: $3,500,000

Capacity: 21,000
Average Attendance: 19,390
% capacity: 92.33%
http://www.hfnhl.com/hfnhlFinance.html#Blues

2. KOHO
Criteria: Team must make the playoffs and have home ice advantage in 1st round. Cost Fee: $2,000,000 Revenue: $4,000,000

The Blues finished first in the Western Conference and had home ice advantage against Edmonton in round 1.
http://www.hfnhl.com/hfnhlStandings.html

3. GM Motor Company
Criteria: Team must finish the regular season with a .500 or better road record. Cost Fee: $1,000,000 Revenue: $3,000,000

The Blues finished with a 30-8-3 road record.
http://www.hfnhl.com/hfnhlStandings.html

4. PowerAde
Player’s team CANNOT endorse Pepsi Cola Company. Criteria: Team must have a player 25 or younger who scores 20 or more goals in the regular season. Cost Fee: $1,000,000 Revenue: $2,500,000

Joe Thornton (24 years old - 45 goals), Dany Heatley (22 years old - 31 goals), Vincent Lecavalier (23 years old - 24 goals) all met this milestone.
http://www.hfnhl.com/hfnhlTeamScoring.html#Blues
http://www.hfnhl.com/hfnhlPlayerVitals.html#Blues

St. Louis Blues Total Compensation: $13 million.

Please follow this exact format - otherwise, it would be a ton of work for me to check all the details, so I'll simply send it back to you asking you to provide the links.

Also note that the player has to have been with your team for the entire season to qualify for individual awards, so if the player was acquired at any point during the year, you can not use their accomplishments as qualification for any deal.

Josh, once I have all the total payouts, I will send you an e-mail with all the team's and their cash achievement details to update the Financial pages.

Cheers,

- Nick

Kristian Huselius misses the 20 goal target by 1 goal after playing missing 6 games in the regular season. 18 of the 19 goals he scored came with both teams playing with full strenght. Now if only that powerplay could have worked a bit better...

Money Won: $2,500,000

The Devils just missed out on the Mountain Dew award, as Maxime Daigneault finished 4th in save%. The team also lost out when Marc-Andre Fleury, Nathan Horton, and Alexander Semin all made the NHL, and Tomas Vanek and Patrick O'Sullivan could have reached the marks had they not participated in the WJC.

3. Ford Motor Company
Criteria: Team must finish the regular season with a .500 or better home record.
Cost Fee: $1,500,000 Revenue: $3,000,000

http://www.hfnhl.com/hfnhlStandings.html

4. Southwest Airlines
Criteria: Team must have a player who scores 10 or more power play goals in the regular season. Cost Fee: $1,000,000 Revenue: $2,000,000

The Bruins did not acheive this endorsement despite having two players in the top 10 for Power Play goals over the regular season ( Owen Nolan at 8 goals, and Brendan Morrison at 7 goals ). Only three players in the entire HFNHL acheived the 10 goal milestone. It is doubtful that the Bruins will choose this endoresment again unless the completion criteria are knocked down to a level that improves the odds of any team successfully acheiving them.

Total compensation for Bruins: $8 Million ( owed to Bruins )

Total Cost: $4.5 Million ( already paid to endorsing companies )

4. Mountain Dew

- Goalie who finishes in the top 3 in either GAA or SVG in a CHL league
Fee: $1 million Revenue: $1 million per player qualified (limit of one award per individual player and to a maximum of $4 million)

QMJHL Defensive player of the year Corey Crawford posted the second-best save % (and gaa!) in the QMJHL among goalies who appeared in at least half of their team's regular-season games. (Interestingly, the number 1 goalie in both categories was another Jackets prospect, 2004-eligible Martin Houle, but he did not start the season with Columbus and so does not qualify for the award). Crawford can only be counted for one category, despite achieving success in two. No other Jackets junior-aged prospects were able to achieve the necessary milestones to trigger the endorsement deal.

I have a question about the impact of the WHA on our league and especially on the Mountain Dew award. Will it be compared to the AHL/College/European leagues for players egliable for the Mountain Dew, or will it be like having your 19 year old kid play in the NHL?
Also, how would the limits be set, when nobody knows what level of scoring there will be in the WHA?
