That would have been an epic tilt!!
Dennis Bonvie was really tough. That season (1991-1992) he was traded to North Bay and he was the league’s heavy weight champion that season. The Petes had no one tough enough to win a fight against him. In the 1992 OHL Draft Dick Todd drafted Matt Johnson in the first round. Bonvie’s rein as OHL heavy weight champion ended the next season when he lost every fight he had with Matt.A buddy of mine that I played ball with was on the ice at a Ranger camp going into LiPuma’s last year. He said that a fight between the veteran LiPuma and tough rookie hopeful Dennis Bonvie was the most vicious fight he ever witnessed on the ice. It was a knock down drag em out dandy that ended in a draw.
Two tough customers there.
