I'm rooting for him. If England can get it's own star in Kirk or Brown the next year and drum up some interest in the sport it could be great for the growth of the game. The UK, France and Germany (which is more developed in hockey) are perfect demographics for hockey (wealthy high income sporting culture etc)

I think they will come along in time. Germany is starting to produce some great prospects in recent years. Just need to guys to make the jump to NHL so the young kids from France and England has someone to look up too.

Exactley, Kirk doesnt have to be an All Star but to stick in the NHL and contribute and be effective would do so much to drum up interest.

And Germany is looking very good over the next few drafts. A real good amount of quality prospects

I hope that's not true simply because Kirk was playing garbage minutes against Guildford and then Edinburgh is a hot mess.

You would hope Thompson would put Kirk up the lineup and give him an actual chance to hang with the men rather than throwing him on a 4th line with a 19 year old that they're sometimes trying to turn into a D.

Looks like they signed another import to ensure Kirk stays on the 4th line.
Trouble is he's a young Brit in a league dominated by imports, teams can have up to 15 imports playing. Coaches will always give very little ice time to Brits, let alone young inexperienced ones. It's a crazy situation.

This coach, when coaching in Sweden & Denmark, criticized other EIHL coaches for not playing Brits. He use to say "It's an import LIMIT, not an import MINIMUM." Since coming back, he has done the same thing he criticized. For example, he cut Luke Ferrara to give the ice time to Kirk (on the 4th line). Ferrara went to Coventry and he's 6th on their team in scoring, already doubling his production from last season with Sheffield and sits 6th in EIHL for English-born scorers. Instead of giving a young Brit more ice time, they sign 35 year old geezers from Sweden like Jamtin and Westerling that can't produce anymore.

These situations would be funnier if Kirk wasn't the one stuck on the bench due to the coaches obsession with has-beens.

Agreed, it would be nice if coaches actually stood behind their words not just follow everyone else like sheep.

You only have to take note of the fans' comments about it not being a development league because it's apparently not their team's job, they just want to watch the "best players possible" and not have a drop in standard!

I've read that nonsense before too. Yet every time Kirk or basically any young player touches the puck in an EIHL game, everyone in the rink gets excited lol

Meet Liam Kirk, England's bright young hockey star and best...

Extensive profile by Scott Wheeler.

On a recent phone call, Kirk, who turned 18 in January, listed off all of the NHL teams that have expressed interest ahead of this summer's draft, or have travelled to come watch him play.
The Buffalo Sabres. The Detroit Red Wings. The Edmonton Oilers. The Vancouver Canucks. The Arizona Coyotes. The Winnipeg Jets.

Later this month, the Boston Bruins plan on watching him. NHL Central Scouting added him to their limited viewings list and uploaded his game tape for NHL clubs to check out.

Will he be playing for the senior team at the World Championships?

He is included in the 28 man squad, which will be cut to 23. He should make the 23. Div 1A would be a good test, if he gets the chance.

He's captaining GB U18s this week in 4th tier (Div 2A) IIHF U18 World Championships. GB will be aiming for promotion, but will be a close group.
