Really he probably should get an invite to the WJC. I doubt he does but seeing as how I expect him to play next year and in his draft year, bringing him in for a look at what he can do wouldn’t be a bad idea. Kid is legit.

Maintaining 1.5PPG as a rookie starting the year at 15 years old would be amazing. Also leads his team in points by a comfortable margin. Zavgorodniy, who's considered a possible 1st rounder in the upcoming draft, has 11 fewer points in 6 more games...

He should be on the team next year. I don't think this year is realistic, give him a chance to play at the U18's first.

He's just getting his feet wet.

13 points in his last 6 games.

He can definitely hit 100 by the end of the season IMO.

40 games and 69 points left.. doable.

I think 100 is steep just because of the pace he’d have to go at for the rest of the year. He’s by far the best true rookie to come into the Q in a long time, he’s got skills a lot of guys don’t. I don’t think he gets to 100 but 80+ is doable.

This year isn’t realistic but next year he should be there. He’ll be a 17 year old and considered as an underager by the tournaments standard, he’s on par with a lot of other underagers that have made the team and should be there. He probably won’t have a huge role at 17 but as an 18 year old, he could be the best player on the team.

I figured if he could put up a PPG it would be extremely impressive considering his age. He's surpassed my expectations.

Hmm, his production is looking like Nathan MacKinnon's. Impressive.

Excited to see his progression throughout his junior career, and how it stacks up with a guy like McDavid's D-2 and D-1 seasons.

I really ought to go watch some junior games in the near future. I think I went to see the Nics play once or twice since Crosby left. Before that it was a weekly occurrence. We've been spoiled...

Just out of curiousity, who's offensive numbers impress you guys the most: Alexis Lafreniere with 17-18-35 in 28 games of his rookie season in the Q or Jack Hughes with 13-35-48 in 24 games in the USDP?

So far he has the third best ppg pace for a 16 yo since Sidney Crosby's record setting 2.29 in 2003-2004.

1. Angelo Esposito 2005-06 1.72
2. Nathan MacKinnon 2011-2012 1.34
3. Alexis Lafrenière 2017-2018 1.25

Thing is, Esposito and MacKinnon did it the year prior to their draft year.

Lafrenière is doing it two years before his draft year (2020 elligible). Which means it’s a good bet that he’ll surpass these numbers next year.

I think it depends how much support Hughes is getting from his linemates. Lafreniere is impressive in that he's leading the team in scoring and is the only player on his team averaging more than a point per game.

Not to take anything away from Lafreniere whose numbers also are extremely impressive, but Jack Hughes's. He's absolutely crushing recent scoring by players such as Jack Eichel, Auston Matthews and Clayton Keller.

Esposito aside, that's not really all that relevant here. Especially when the comparison is to Sidney Crosby and Nathan MacKinnon, who both were relatively late birthdays themselves. MacKinnon for instance relatively was barely a month older.

Sure, but Lafreniere still will have played 3 full Junior seasons before his draft, which is pretty rare.

Yamamoto played as a young 16 year old and was below PPG. McDavid played as a 16 year old as well and was a PPG player (he was 15 half the year because of exceptional status but only 3 months older than Lafrenière in terms of birthday).

haven't really paid attention to prospects in europe so far out of their draft year but holy **** his stats look incredible
All 3 are phenomenal. Nicholas Wong is also having a pretty impressive campaign for being a 2020 draft in the ohl, 12 goals.
