For 2018, I think it looks highly doubtful we'll have any guys born past '95 in the squad. It's simple age demographics - our 80-borns won't be out of the game yet and there'll be enough talent with classes 90-95 that you don't have to consider the new kids taking their first strides.
Here's how I see it, not necessarily position by position, but more like player type by player type.
Goalies: No worries here. All of the names we currently have in the NHL won't be older than 35 (save for Bäckström) - with some good picks in their prime. Rask will be carrying the squad, but we also have good frames in Ortio, Raanta, Aittokallio - and Saros.
Top-4 d-men, lefties: Määttä is the only top shelf talent. Currently it looks like anybody's guess whether Pitkänen still plays. For depth, we have Lepistö, Salmela, Mäenpää, perhaps Kivistö will develop into something... not ideal, but serviceable if we don't have to take more than two.
Top-4 d-men, righties: Looking good here. We have Ristolainen, Vatanen and Pokka on tier 1. Hietanen and perhaps Lajunen on tier 2. Julius Honka is a name to watch, but something tells me that it'll be too soon for him, and we do have enough depth here.
Stay-at-home d-men: None top-shelf, but a wide and deep pool of serviceable creatures. Kukkonen will be 36. Väänänen at 38 might be too old. Then there's Järvinen, Melart, Jaakola and maybe something developing in Jokipakka and Hakanpää. Plus some additional names in the KHL like Ohtamaa and Jalasvaara who might become options in a pinch.
Centers: Top-shelf talent galore. Barkov, MiG, Teräväinen, Filppula, Koivu, Kontiola, Lehterä... and then there're utility guys like Haula and MaG. Listing the 4th line stereotypes doesn't feel appropiate, since the depth is pretty interchangeable and it'll even be in question if we need any, since all our top-shelf guys will fit the role too.
Scoring wingers: This is where we're hurting, as usual. There's not a single surefire 50+ point guy in sight. Pulkkinen and Armia may develop into something, but currently it takes a bit optimistic view to see them actually get there. Keränen? Kasperi Kapanen maybe, but 2018 will be too soon methinks. Depth options include J.Jokinen and the usual euro suspects Aaltonen and Salminen.
Grinders: Oh-so-many. Komarov leads the pack, with Korpikoski, Bergenheim, Hartikainen and who else following close behind. Joensuu, Salomäki... even Pihlström won't be age-old. Too many to list 'em all.
Bottom line: I fully expect a better team than in Sochi (if the NHL decides to go, knock on wood) - but if it's going to be the best we've ever iced on paper (currently, that mantle is held by the 2004 World Cup team), we need guys like Pulkkinen and Armia to top out the expectations.
2022 is a crapshoot at this stage.
