Strome will never be a 50 to 65 point player. Let's get real here. He's too slow and doesn't have the skill to challenge NHL defenders on a consistant basis. Rather the Oilers spend that 2 to 3 million on a better winger with upside.
Who are we going to get to sign here at a discount? That's what 30-40 point wingers get.

I think 40 pts is pretty much the line in the sand... if he puts that up or more in a 2nd/3rd line role... can't be too disappointed with that considering his cap hit.

Obviously 45-50+ would be better but if he doesn't get 1st line and 1st unit PP time then it's harder to put up those type of numbers.

Looking at their career ppg stats... Eberle is a 62 pt player in a full 82 game season and Strome is a 40 pt player in a full 82 game season.

That seems about right to expect that type of production from each player. I would say if Eberle hits ~60 pts and Strome hits ~40 pts... both teams would be happy considering the cap hits of both players.

Right now Eberle is on pace for 47 pts and Strome is on pace for 27 pts... both would be fairly disappointing results for both players... but that 20 point gap is still there and it's a decent possibility it will remain so all season long.
