McGrath is currently second in the OHL in scoring with 27g,60a,87p in 46 games. That is impressive, but what I find even more impressive is he is doing it on a defensive orientated team. For example, Kitchner has only given up 114 goals and the second highest Kitchner scorer is Azevado who is 40'th in the league with 50 points.

Contrast that with London players who rank #1,3,4 in scoring and whose team is averaging almost a goal more a game, but also giving up almost a goal more a game.

Anyway, any other thoughts comments on McGrath's numbers on a team that plays more of a defensive style?

He does play on a defense oriented team. What is not particularly impressive is that he is even in plus minus while most of his teammates are in the green. Given the amount of points he has vs everyone else on the team, that speaks about his defensive commitment.

Offensively, only behind Schremp and Ryan are doing better in terms of relative proportion of goal participation vs their teams.

Watching tonight's game v. Brampton, it's clear the PP runs through him.
He was getting 1:20 to 1:30 every PP.

While he did get a lot of PP time tonight, that's not the usual routine. Injuries have dictated that he get more ice time right now. On an average night, I'd say it's closer to a minute.

He is also a staple on the PK but because of his +/- (probably the most useless stat we keep track of) we should definitely question his defensive commitment. He is not going to win a Selke or anything but he is at least adequate defensively.

    This thread sounds awfully familiar...

As for +/- Bolland is a -1 for the year and Schremp is +14 and Bolland is easily stronger in his defensive play than Schremp... Agreed one of the more useless stats.

Also McGrath has played anywhere from 4 to 9 more games than the other top 6 in points so it is reasonable that he will fall off the rankings some as the season finishes itself out.

Plus minus tells you something about the net contributions of a player at ES, and is also influenced by SH goals against on the PP and offensive goals for on the PK.

If you are looking at +/- to tell you something about defense alone, you're not interpreting the stat correctly.

Sadly most DO use it simply as a tool to measure defensive ability (here now included) which is why I am saying it is generally useless. Far too many factors to consider when looking at it yet they all get overlooked and passed off as "poor defensive sense"
