Moncton, NB
Yeah in 18 years Moncton might have 165000 residents. They would be the size of Sudbury or Kingston Ontario. They are almost certain to get an NHL team then. As everyone knows Moncton is rich and is a huge corporate center like Toronto, Chicago and LA.

The NHL is hungry to expand to the 250th biggest Metro Area in North America.
My point is Halifax like Moncton is just another butt-crack no-where city in the Maritimes. The rest of Canada much less the US hasn't heard of either.
Most of NB would be just as happy if Ville de Québec or Portland Maine got an NHL team as from western or northern NB they are just as close as Halifax. NBers probably more than any east coast province don't use the term Maritimer or Atlantic like NS does.
The idea of a regional team only exists in the minds of Haligonians.
Never forget though Moncton is within a 2 hour drive of 75% of the population of the Maritimes.....can Halifax say that. ;)

You sound awfully bitter at Halifax. Does Moncton have a Halifax inferiority complex?
