Except it isn't accurate. The Jackals started 7-0-0 in 2009-10.

You might be misinterpreting what this article is writing about. It is accurate. This article is not about all seasons for Elmira pro hockey. This article clearly states it is exclusively about first year Elmira hockey franchises. Hence why it is including the 5 individual franchises to have called Elmira home, and why some of them include season starts with zero wins. That might have been you first context clue.

Methinks the right honorable Chairman of the Chemung County IDA is feeling a bit of pressure in his sacred assignment ... "What you have to understand is that we've gone through a lot in 23 years. The facility [was beaten] up over a long period of time and this particular group of people on the IDA board has put together a group that has put this facility back together. ..." Very politely edited for public consumption ... :soap:

He's not wrong - but that's also on the County, who contracted various outside entities to manage it and got poor results, likely because of graft and self-dealing.

You left out endemic governmental bureaucratic incompetence, but I'll give you partial credit.

I'm thankful that 12 years ago the County owned arena in Johnstown chose the NAHL over the FPHL. The NAHL is vastly superior talent wise with enough physicality to satisfy any fan.

Johnstown had minor pro hockey since 1950, but fans with an open mind, gave the NAHL an honest chance. The team has since averaged close to or well over 2000 fans per game. The town has completely embraced junior hockey, and the players are treated very well.

Elmira would be a perfect fit for the NAHL, but would the fans and the community give it an honest chance, or would they just refer to it as "nothing but high school hockey"?

WOW, surprise news of the day. Looks like @battra needs to buy those season tickets after all ... 6 or 8 sections worth ... and make significant concessions purchases every game.
Still haven't seen my team play yet this year....lol.

So here's the thing, Elmira probably would of accepted AFTER the Enforcers left. I feel like if you tried it now, not a lot of people are. A good chuck of people even the fans of the hockey team, are just tired of being strung along with the arean and just want this never ending nightmare to end.

The Sharks quite handily beat Watertown on New Year's Eve, a 6-2 victory on First Arena ice with player/coach Tyler Gjurich scoring a hat trick. Reported attendance was 1,009 (believe as you wish), and the fans seemed collectively into the action as well as the result. Mind you, it was a match of bottom feeder teams, but at least Elmira (the team AND their fans) showed what they could muster.

Unfortunately, the Chemung County authorities have already noted that they are losing money with this amount of attendance.

I don't know how they could have intelligently concluded otherwise when they made the decision to host another sub-Single A hockey team. :dunno:
