Pointless name change, no doubt. Unfortunately that's what you get in a world filled with marketing consultants, image specialists and others who need to justify their high fees.

If they had to change the name the may as well have gone for a sponsored name, at least that would have brought some money into Swedish hockey.

But everyone non-Swedish already did know what Elitserien means even without knowing the language. Elite Series / League.. So bit of pointless change.

Just wanna inform you guys what the idiots did here in Finland .

First they changed our league name to Liiga. Yes, you read right. Liiga. That means League. We no longer have SM-liiga, we have Liiga. Here is the new logo. What the f....

Then they removed the relegation and opened the league. That means that every year the winner of Mestis (our Allsvenskan) can move up to Liiga if they can buy the Liiga licence. No one moves down. So in theory we could have a 18 team league some day... This is going to destroy hockey in Finland. Our Mestis will be a complete joke when all the top teams have moved up to Liiga.

KHL is stealing all the best players from the league and now we take more teams in... soon there will be amateur players playing in the league.

That rule cant stand for ever.. it could even be to only replace Jokerit when they go to KHL only? Or maybe to get 1-2 teams more.. It can't be more than that for sure (well I know its possible, but I dont believe in it at all.. They must think about the Mestis and what teams could economically have potentional to play in "Liiga").
