He's going to be an excellent player.
Been following his career since watching him at the U17's.

Real good situation for him and Nashville and they could use someone with his shot.

Oh I know who he is, the thread seems kinda bush league with no team in the OP or any of the first 10 posts.

Added the team in title. Please find time to quote or send a message for fair critizism. Mistakes are corrected faster when we do so! Thanks for the heads up though.

I had no idea you could do that on an ELC with the AHL agreement.

Yes, it is common. It's an assignment clause. Marcus Hogberg of the Senators got one as well. If a player does not make the team out of camp, they have the option of refusing an assignment to the AHL/ECHL and instead returning to their European or overseas league.

Max bonuses if true is the more interesting part of the contract. When was the last time someone drafted as late as him received anywhere close to max performance bonuses signing so soon after the draft?

Never is the most likely answer, however it is hard to show the evidence as proof for that claim. Who would be the most likely candidates Some other KHL stars?

That will likely make Tolvanen expansion draft eligible. Interesting times.
7/3 Forsberg Joey Arvi fiala turris tolvenen( take you pick I'd probably protect jarnkrok again but Hartman Smith bonino are options too) 3 defense would be subban ekholm and a new signed Josi or ellis

Now list the rest of the 9 forwards...

It's not "ridiculous", but Team Finland's roster is finally the real deal when it comes to offense (That is, if we ever see NHL level tournament in the near future and Finland is led by a competent coach instead of garbage like Marjamäki)

In addition of Laine - Barkov - Tolvanen (who should not yet counted as an elite player. 1st line would be more like Rantanen - Barkov - Laine):

Rantanen - Aho - Teräväinen

Granlund - Koivu - Haula/Puljujärvi/Kapanen

Armia - Filppula - Komarov (shutdown line)

Not saying that is better than Canada and current Finnish D-corps is an average at best (and defense is crap compared to Can/Swe)

Back to topic, I'm a bit surprised about Tolvanen's conract. It's basically the best contract any rookie can get and his draft number was 30. That must be a weird record of some kind. I guess Olympics and Jokerit playoff run nailed it. Tolvanen was his team's best goal scorer in both cases (or shared the place in Jokerit). Did not help his team to win Cup/Championship, but anyway scored more goals than most of his veteran team mates, while still rocking a teenage moustache.

That being said, Tolvanen's rookie contract makes him a bit overrated unless proved otherwise. His shot is elite, but not Laine/Ovie/Stamkos level and he is physically much weaker. His skating is smooth, but not overly fast. Tolvanen's offensive hockey IQ will make the difference if he ever becomes an elite player (as is the case with most players)

Hope he does even better, but I would predict Tolvanen's prime potential being like 30 goal scorer. And that is as realistic as a failure and shipping back to KHL. I doubt there is need for Tolvanen if he does not make it to PP specialist and top 6.

Sami Niku of WPG/Manitoba Moose has an European Assignment clause too, but is playing in the Moose all the same. It is as said an option the player has. And it's not a bad option if you have leverage ask for it because the player may see his two-way contract traded to any NHL/AHL team any day. The option is only for the duration of the Loan to Minors; if he's called up then he gotta come back.

CBA said:
11.19 Loan to Clubs Outside North America. The SPC of any Player may contain a clause that
provides that, in the event his NHL Club Loans the Player to a club outside the NHL, during the
period of such Loan, the Player shall have the option to be Loaned to a club of his choice outside
North America. The clause may relieve the NHL Club of the obligation to pay the Player his
Paragraph 1 Salary for the duration of such Loan if such relief is expressly stated in the
provision, but the NHL Club shall otherwise be responsible for all other payments due to the
Player by the NHL Club pursuant to his SPC. Such clause shall be subject to any applicable
Player Transfer Agreement between the NHL and a hockey federation and/or the IIHF in effect,
at the time of the Loan. The Player shall be permitted to make financial arrangements for
compensation and other benefits with the club outside North America for the duration of the
Loan, which financial compensation and benefits shall not be included in Averaged Club Salary,
Actual Club Salary, League-wide Player Compensation or the Players' Share. The Club shall be
required to provide to the NHL and the NHLPA in accordance with Exhibit 3 any loan
agreement entered into in relation to such Loan by no later than 5:00 p.m. New York time on the
day following the day the Club has received the executed loan agreement.

As for the bonuses, the boy has been a steamroll in KHL and could also have opted to stay out for another year and then re-enter Draft. #leverage

Also I'd like to think NSH is not fully against giving him a Vesey type of contract, because of reasons. In any case Tolvanen needs to be very very good to actually get the $2M of Schedule B bonus money. Top 10 in league in G/A/P/PpGP good.
