GDT: ECQF Game Two: New Jersey Devils vs. Tampa Bay Lightning

Lovejoy really needs to sit. Butcher needs to be given more minutes, Greene less, and Boyle also needs to sit.

This will be addressed in the offseason appropriately

It's not like he hasn't been playing period though. And it's not like Lovejoy, Moore, Mueller and Severson are really giving you anything spectacular.

You can’t take them all out. Especially for a someone’s first playoff game.

On top of the fact our best forward sub would also be playing their first playoff game.

They need to tweak the lineup, not take an axe to it.

This team has been far too tentative in most of these first two games. It's like they're so afraid of being beaten by Tampa's offensive players that they've forgotten what got them here in the first place.

And in turn their fear has caused the very thing they feared.

It wouldn't have mattered who was in goal the way we played the first two periods. That being said, Kinkaid has given up 9 goals in a little over 90 minutes so far in this series, so even if most of them weren't his fault, I can understand going to Cory Monday.

Hynes said during the game that he thought the defense play well in the first period. I must have been watching a different game.

Maybe it’s time to give Santini and Severson a shot and go with Coleman as a fourth line center and put Bratt back in. Go with more speed. Boyle, Maroon and Travis just makes us too slow. Boyle sits. Moore and Lovejoy sit as well.

You could say Hynes already took an axe to it between Games 1 and 2 taking out Gibbons and going 11-7. Maybe they would have been better off with the stubborn Hackstol approach between their Games 1-2. But now I'd rather just either play Bratt or Gibbons in Game 3 and get Lovejoy out, that's the most I'm hoping for.

Kind of an ideal spot for a struggling goalie to come in. All he can really do in that spot is help. No matter who the goalie is Monday, we need them to make some great saves. Saying it was a "tough save" is not good enough, fair or not.

He did his job. Made some big saves early to let them cut it to two, and they had plenty of grade A chances to cut it to one before they needed to pull the goalie.

Unfortunately Vasi also made big saves in the third.

Just got back from a family trip and decided to record the game prior to leaving.....

...glad I did that so I can promptly ERASE the game.

Tampa just has too much firepower.

(hope the Rock can re-energize the Devils and their mojo and maybe they can salvage a game or two)

Yeah I always thought he was very good at puck battles. Not sure if I was 100% wrong or if he has just fallen off a cliff this year.

Palms seems to have a good year than an off year, then a good year then an off year etc, hopefully next year he's better

1000% time to roll the dice with Bratt though. Need to get Palms on another line too. Spread things out more.

If you were putting Bratt in for him I could at least see the logic of giving the team a jolt. If it was for Stafford like it looked like it was going to be, that would have been the ultimate waste. Going 11-7 was just confusing and all the lineup drama before the game almost suggested they were indecisive and just threw up a blender.

I was very vocal that it would be stupid to bench your best penalty-killer in a playoff game against arguably the NHL's top PowerPlay. Stupid is as stupid does.
