Got a feeling the islanders win this game.

After the Canes played a horrendous game 5 last year and were a shot away from being forced to a game 7 because of that its hard to believe they'd do it again. I guess the Isles or Varlamov might play the game of their lives but I see this being like 3-1 or 4-1

I expect a lot of pushes by the Canes that will be very similar to game 2.

Canes just got to end this game in regulation. The only loss by Carolina this series was a 2OT loss on a tip in goal. Isles can't beat Carolina in regulation this series.

I hope you're right. Carolina has not played well at home this series yet for a full 60 minutes (only in spurts). What happened in game 2 when the Canes stormed back is what the team is capable of doing when they're on their game for a full 60.

The first OT in NY in game 4 was promising. Flinging 17 shots on goal and close to 50 for the game AND this is after being horrendous in the faceoff circle.

Because of that I expect Carolina to bring their best tonight. They're going to do what they can to not bring it back to Long Island.

Also, last year in game 5 we had Raanta in net, not Andersen and since his return Andersen has played really well at home. I do not expect him to have another game like game 2 when he let in 3 goals on 12 shots...but in his defense it's hard to stay focused on the game when your team is constantly outchancing the opponent and holding them to so few shots. I mean the Islanders only had 1 shot the entire 3rd period.

If Carolina plays like they did in game 2 for a full 60 minutes but not be down 3-0 early they win game 5...and the series.

Carolina played their best game of the series in game 4 for sure. It’s funny how both team’s best game played, I think for the Isles their best was game 1 ended in losses but I said earlier this week these two team’s styles sort of lead to a tendency I think for them to lose games they deserve to win and win games they deserve to lose often. Carolina last year vs the Devils and Panthers I thought continued to exhibit that type of tendency where they were winning a couple of games vs NJ they had zero business winning and lost two games vs Florida they never should have lost

Hey Canes fans, I want to go back to New York but I'm a bit tired of Staten Island. I mean how many times can you see the Wu Tang Clan monument wall? How about next week we head to Manhattan for awhile? I think a three day stay should be sufficient to take in the sights. We should get a really good look at MSG while we're there.

This is why I don't see them losing the next 3 straight.

Reason being the OT in game 4 was promising from them Varlamov just stood on his head. It was his birthday though so that may have given him a little of a spark. It would not be good to lose on your birthday.

If the Canes consistently play like they did in OT in game 4 for 3 periods, I'm confident they'll win.

Also, they're 2-0 in series when they take a 3-0 lead. First instance was SCSF in 2006 vs Devils. Lost game 4 but won game 5 at home and the second time was vs these Islanders in 2019 (sweep).

However, if they lose tonight...it'll likely go 7.

So in their playoff history whenever Carolina gets that 3rd win of the series and ends up being 3-0, or 3-1 they have not blown it. They've always closed it out.

Hoping they do the same tonight.

Yeah after sleeping on the loss the other day, this is how I felt as well. We didn't really play well at all that day, never were able to get into our game, definitely seemed out of sorts the entire afternoon.

And we were KK somehow finding the stick shaft of Varly on an open net in OT away from handshakes.

On one hand, no excuses, we have to play better and NY definitely played a good game to get the win and hats off to them. On the other, it shows just how good this Canes team is that they can have a game like that and still literally be one unlucky break away from a win.

There's no padding there! Do you know how much that hurts? That's a typical reaction! Why throw the elbow in the first place???? What a LOSER and GOON Orlov is!

Sound familiar? lol

It’s almost like people have reflexive reactions to unexpected contact, and people come off looking really goofy when they try to act that natural reaction is intentional.

Yeah I know what you mean. If the Isles shooters didn't find the Andersen's pads and glove on 3 or 4 occasions, NYI wins this in 4. Waddaya gonna do...

Isles win this game all bets are off. Everyone knows that. So on one hand, no way carolina loses at home, right? On the other hand, all the pressure is on them to win. That could lead to some mistakes. Isles will need a break or two to leave this game with a win.

NYI are 1-1 in games I've watched vs 0-2 in games I did not watch, so I'll be doing my part by not watching, which I really can't anyway.
Fixed. Oy vey. (hangs head)

Yeah almost. In the case of the Canes players there was actually contact.
Let's face it - the Islanders just don't have the puck enough to practice diving convincingly, including at the appropriate times.

Canes shuffled their lines because they weren't happy with distribution/play vs. Islanders who have no choice but to play only 3 lines. And only 1 of those lines isn't routinely outskated,.

Saying the series stays tied at even strength doesn't tell the story when players take penalties because they're hemmed in, and gassed.

I remember Babcock during his brief time on the NBCSN panel saying a 3-0 lead goes from feeling insurmountable to not so insurmountable so darn fast. You feel great then after 3-1, especially if game 5 is at home you’re thinking we really need to win this. That said even in cases where a team was 3-0 and it goes to 3-2 most of them wrap it up in 6, home or road because a 3-0 just speaks to the idea that the team up 3-0 is likely that much better than the other guy

Hope Lee is ok after that brutal elbow the other night

I guess embellishment is only bad when it's done by the Canes, huh

LOL that a series of 4 still photos is "proof" that there was no contact! What is this, 1995, and you're trying to save everyone from watching their screen clock for 45 seconds while the video loads?

FWIW, it was the back of Orlov's forearm that hit Lee, and the reaction was instantaneous.
