EVIL LAUGH
We've all experienced moments like these....
I just watched the highlights. If you guys say he was good he was good.I mean up until the very end he had like 2 GA on 35 shots? And had 2 GA on 25 shots the night before, really not that bad up until the very end
That must have been after the whistle.Maybe. I do know there was a case in recent years where someone literally fired a slap shot into an empty net (not the incident this year) and they actually got a 2 minute misconduct over it, this is going back at least 5 years
Roy loves him they have a long historyI haven't followed the islanders. Why exactly is varlamov playing? He looked very dopey
They were being dominated when they were up 3-0 as well.At this point the isles are just a slightly above average team who got hot at the right time, they have no business playing in these games.
I dont remember such a bad loss, it was as if after the 3rd goal, they were just completely dominated in every facet of the game. you knew they were going to find a way to lose it
"think if you're Carolina now the key is to not get too confident"I've learned in postseason play the only guarantee that a team is done in a series after a tough loss is when it occurs in like 3 or 4 OTs. We saw that with Carolina last year for example and there is a few others like that because probably the fatigue factor magnifies when you were on the losing end. The Isles were never winning more than 1-2 games in this series anyway and they probably still end up winning 1 at home. I think if you're Carolina now the key is to not get too confident because that did seem to happen to them last year in game 5 up 2-1...if they do that on the road up 2-0 this series will be 3-1 by the mid point of the game Thursday
Canes have gone up 2-0 in 5 of the 7 series with home ice under Rod. They’ve lost Game 3 on the road all 5 times. They’re going to get a season on the line push from the Isles. Maybe this is the series they overcome it.
Either the humiliation of the loss will cave them and the season is over, or it will fire them up especially at home to overcome. Could go either way but I could see them coming out flying thursday. Saturday felt like an even contest then last night they appeared to be an AHL team, not sure which version we'll get
That's candid respect.
I'd be rather shocked if it goes five at this point, that kind of loss gets in your head..... I expect the Isles to come out and make a ton of self inflicted errors Thursday and goon it up.
If they don't like it they should consider stopping us on thr ice.
Even though Carolina is up 2-0, it's not like they were easy wins. Even in a game that they completely dominated it went down to the wire. No reason to think it will get an easier for the Canes on the road.
Well, it's not exactly going out on a limb saying that Carolina will likely win. All I'm saying is they will have to earn it. Most games are close/tight in the playoffs.Islanders couldn't win the one game they might outplay CAR in the series (G1) and then couldn't hold onto a 3-0 lead for one of the more devastating losses a team can have in the playoffs.
I'd say they're likely cooked
I found another angle and that pretty much seems to be the case. Guentzel doesn’t even turn to face Nelson until after he scored and gets slashed for the third/fourth time. Guy was frustrated that his team blew a huge lead and went full meathead.By all evidence it was exactly what it looked like. Nelson lost his cool and stopped playing hockey in favor of frustrated antics. Several of his teammates followed his lead. It happens to a lot of teams in emotional moments.

Oh look a cheap owner joke.I have no doubt Dundon is not over the cap, lol
Being a Panthers fan you learn how to spot themOh look a cheap owner joke.

Dobson is a trainwreck defensively.I’m sure he’ll take a lot of heat for that last goal, because he lost track of the puck behind the net. But IMO that was completely on Dobson making an absolutely egregious turnover at the worst possible place and moment. Varlamov had every reason to think Dobson would either clear it or at least pin it along the boards.
Yeah there's no reason for that puck to not get around the net, other than Martinook just flat out wanting it more.I’m sure he’ll take a lot of heat for that last goal, because he lost track of the puck behind the net. This hasn't aged wellYou know what, I think this round has a ton of interesting storylines.
1) Goaltending - This is a huge topic for both teams. Varlamov has stolen the net from one of the best goalies in the league, but it still remains to be seen if Roy plays Sorokin in game 1. Either way, I say they have the advantage in net. For the Canes, that's their biggest Achilles Heel. For the Canes, whether or not they'll have stability in net is a recurring theme with the likes of Kotchetkov, Raanta and Anderson giving Carolina a revolving door of Vezina calibre play, injuries, and bad outings.
2) Carolina's contracts - Take a look at the capfriendly page, it's absolutely nuts to see how many new guys are fighting for a new contract or fighting for a raise. Of note, there's Teravainen, Necas, Drury, Jarvis, Skjei, Pesce, DeAngelo, Chatfield and of course, Guentzel. Desperation can create diamonds out of some of these guys, but it can also create mistakes. On the other hand, NY has the entire core locked in long term.
3) The metro sucks - We all know the metro's been terrible this year, so Carolina hasn't really needed to play meaningful hockey in months. They had no way of knowing who they'd face, but home ice advantage was never really in doubt. New York's been playing playoff do-or-die hockey since Patty Roy was brought in. Not to mention, they've been severely underscoring compared to their offensive metrics since the ASB, so if the pucks start going in then they'll be a force. Yes the Canes are 8-2-0 in the last ten, but these games have been fictitious for them. NY are 8-1-1, so it's two of the three hottest teams in the league facing off against one another (Dallas is 8-2-0 int their last 10)
Honestly, I think we see an upset here. Guentzel isn't enough to overcome the goaltending concerns and I seriously think the Isles are going in with the confidence and goaltending to pull this off. I also can't forget Bo being GPG in the bubble and think he'll pop off similarly again.
I predict Isles win in 5, but that 2-3 of those games go to OT. Carolina management are left wondering what to do, and if this core has what it takes to show up in the moments that count.
What is this assumption based on? Because every piece of video evidence we see it doesn't show that Guentzel or any Cane, said or did anything other than score a likely clinching goal and celebrate to a normal degree. As far as I saw nobody asked them in media if something was said but I assume it was
