Zaitsev has really struggled. Do they have any realistic option to fill in if they scratch him?

Debrusk goal was weak. Although even Hainsey who I thought was supposed to be the biggest defenseman for TOR got pushed around by Backes in front of the net too.

So are the Leafs this bad or are the Bruins just that good?

there's not enough strong veteran presence on the Leaf's roster to lead the way for the young players imo (Marleau and Plekanec are too old at this point)

it seems like they're stuck in "regular season mode" where they had more time/space.

this will be a great learning experience for the young Leaf players and every good young team goes through this.

I wonder how the Leafs' fans will respond.

Yeah and what kind of Vet presence are those guys. I dont think Plekanec has ever been known as a leader and definitely not a playoff warrior. Marleau was always part of those Sharks teams that choked come playoff time and couldnt get the job done and he was always a part of the problem really.

I agree the vet presence is hurting Toronto the most right now. Matthews not scoring is obviously a huge issue, but you would think a young guy like that could have a vet with some experience help get him going, or pot a couple to take the pressure off. A vet who will tell guys like Nylander to get off the perimeter because it isnt going to work in the playoffs. Even on D, who is their vet presence? Hainsey. Hes always been a decent player but hes a journeyman with last year his only year making the playoffs.

I do agree that adversity is good and the team can learn from this. I just hope they are able to make the final couple games competitive and leave the series with their heads held high.

Yup, that'll be around what GMs should be asking for if Toronto wants an elite RHD to stabilize their defense. If the Leafs D costs them the series, which is looking like it'll be the case, the league will take notice and ask a lot more from Lou knowing that this is now his most glaring need. They're gonna have to give to get, and if they want Tanev, one of the best defensive defenders in the league, I'd be asking Lou for either a 1st+Lilj, one of Marner/Nylander or their 18 and 19 firsts.

It probably won't be Tanev anyway, but if TML wants a good RHD they're going to have to pay up this offseason.

Loumarello could pull some Ray Shero type wizardry and get what he needs for scrap but if their D keeps on looking like an achilles heel the 1st+Lilj might have to be on the table.

As an opposing fan, even I don't think Tanev is worth either of these two players. I have no opinion on Liljegren or the 1st round picks, but you don't trade elite offensive talent for even elite defensive specialists. Tanev is a good player but signing a guy like Doughty in the off-season makes a lot more sense, especially with the playoff experience he brings and doesn't cost them valuable assets other than cap room.

Sure, just didn't want to give anyone up to get someone. Teams just don't give away players regardless of how great we think we are. So Plexiglass isnt working out the way we would have liked, but it was the best move we could make.

Yeah I have no problem with th plexiglass move. He was on a bad team so hard on scouting to figure out where he is at. Historically, he has also been a Krejci killer.

A bit of both.

The Bruins are absolutely a top tier team and one of the best.

As much as it pains me to say, the leafs are certainly better than their current play. A lot of that does hinge on Anderson as he hasn't been very good .. nor has Matthews. But all things being equal, they are better than the current state of affairs.

I'm gonna go throw up now.

The Bruins are definitely the more complete team. They play great team D while also having the best 2 way line in hockey. Perhaps best period. I think the Leafs can match the Bruins offensively but they just dont play the best team D. Which you need to be able to do in this league at this time of year. Especially vs a team like the Bruins. In the playoffs it gets that much harder to score but if you cant keep the puck out of your own net then you wont get far in the playoffs.

So who wins Tonight? I'm leaning Leafs in OT but B's can put the nail in the coffin tonight.

The Leafs have to have their best effort tonight obviously, I think it will be a closer game than the first two but I think Boston is going to be hard to beat. I'm taking Boston by 1 goal.

this is the issue with young skilled teams...they have to learn the hard way about playoff hockey.

physical play gets elevated, defense gets elevated and you have less time and space to make plays. there's no more easy games or nights off.

the Leafs look shell shocked. they got punched in the mouth and dont seem to know how to respond.

Apparently the correct response is to promote far worse players. Can't wait to see it play out.

Bruins fans shut down the GDT over a spanish inquasition into who 'stole' lineups graphics from the Bruins thread, when it was added by a mod.
Not sure why the MOD felt the need to change it....it was a "half assed" theme GDT to go with the Leafs effort so far....

Seriously, though.....@Daisey Jane wouldn't steal anybody's work.
