Interesting take (because less NHL/ahl players are assigned to the ECHL team) however some NHL teams do want to tell the local Echl coaches who to play more....

depends on the NHL team depends on the ECHL coach.
Relationships do matter...

Fortunately, this only applies to a select few who are assigned by the NHL team.

It absolutely would. You'd see better hockey and more players climbing the ladder from the ECHL to the AHL and NHL.

I doubt the agreement between the CHL and the NHL will ever substantially change, though. Unlike MLB destroying 40 minor league baseball markets when the national agreement ended, the NHL wouldn't go up against the system that develops 70% of its players and does so, largely, for free and without significant subsidy from the NHL - and that's before we even start to talk about the bad pres the NHL would get in Canada if it did.
