So I am doing some testing right now and have a question...

Can someone explain the financial screen to me because it is just an ****ing mess and that is putting it lightly.

I keep getting fined 24K by the NHL for being below the Salary floor, I keep signing random AHL scrubs to 8 million and I keep getting fined. How the hell do I read the financial screen? Which one is my actual current salary for the season?

I mean more so for the CPU teams. I find that Colin White and Logan Brown always go to Europe for extended periods of time

So I notice that it’s usually two things:

A. The players wage demands are too high for most teams to add on
Or B. No team really ‘wants’ them on their team.

Bumping the cap only really solves this issue, At least they’ll find a team!

Yeah it always just seems like a cap issue for the teams whenever I see it. Also EHM is not very good when you are trying to trade away or for players with high cap hits who are bad players. Like if I am trying to get to the salary floor, teams would rather hangon to really bad players with high cap hit then trade them to me... Which is pretty dumb

Is there any editor for the saved game? As i wrote before, i have now very big issues to find some staff people. This is going worse every season. So can i put some guys manually into my game?

I started the game with the original DB. I mean, the first DB that came out with this new EHM.

Thanks for this. Only thing I am unsure of is how do I create my own expansion draft. In the XSLX file it just lists names on a team. So I just edit those players to however I make my own expansion draft?

Yes so in the spreadsheet just change the names and birthdates to players you want on each team. Make sure to put the birthdates in correct format. If you replace a player, the player replaced will just go back to being on his real team.

The good part is once you do it, if you ever want to download a new NHL36 database update, you can just keep applying your own expansion draft you made each time. You can also use that spreadsheet to adjust or even add players as well.

You could go into the TBL Editor and try to maneuver it that way. I haven't even gotten into 2100, like you have but i'll keep an eye on that.

Re: Waivers

I'm pretty sure I've posted previously about this here but I still don't get it completely.

A typical thing I'm seeing is on the 'Information' screen it'll say something like: 2 seasons accrued, 0 games accrued this season. (40 to a accrue a season).
Ok, that makes enough sense... but, when I check the player's career history he will won't have played 40 plus games in any single NHL season so I don't get how he would've accrued two seasons. Case in being here is Golden Knights' Teemu Pulkkinen. Teemu Pulkkinen - Wikipedia

I'm presuming, I'm overlooking something rather it being an error in the game - please can someone explain to me what I'm not getting?

Update...NHL36 v2.5

I think for v2.5 I've got the staff crash fixed; went in with the exporter/importer and made sure all staff had a preferred tactic of "unknown". Tested out on all the staff that were known to cause crashes when you clicked on them and the game no longer crashes. If you still have a staff crash let me know, but I believe the issue is solved.

Otherwise, pretty minor in the data update department aside from a lot of movement in the USHL and in terms of college commits. Fixed Price's abnormally weak blocker :)

Interactive NHL36 Draft Idea?

Also - I had an idea and just wanted to put feelers out there...instead of me doing all 5 expansion teams myself in the expansion draft, would maybe be interesting to conduct an expansion draft with 5 EHM users acting as GM's. The result of such a draft would then be incorporated into the Expansion Draft XLS file that would come with the database. Would be kind of a neat fantasy GM type thing to do.

A few things...

1) I would not participate since I know my own DB so well.

2) I would however provide a sortable spreadsheet of available (unprotected) players with names, ages, positions and overall current and potential ratings. You could of course do a much "deeper" dive of course on your own by exporting a full list of players and all attributes from the Editor but in general I do NOT want to turn this into a debate about player ratings and picking at individual "oh his shot should be 15 not 13 and this guy's determination should be 8 not 11" type debates. You are free to change things on your end all you want but I'm not doing NHL36 to spend hours agonizing over each individual rating of 10,000 players...remember, the goal if this database is to get a realistic overall feel of things like stats, awards, depth charts, future drafts, feeder leagues, etc...if you want a 100% real database you shouldn't be playing one with 36 teams in the NHL/AHL/ECHL :)

3) Rules would generally be as indicated in the TBL thread where I talk about how I conducted the expansion draft the first time (I believe page 5 or 6 in that thread) although we could talk about and refine the rules beforehand.

4) I have ZERO idea how you go about running one of these kinds of fantasy drafts so perhaps those of you in leagues or whatnot could enlighten me. I generally don't have chunks of hours to spend just laying around to curate such a draft in one swoop but doing it in a message board thread seems like it could take quite a while to do 30 rounds with 5 teams each. Maybe not though. Hell, I don't even have to really be involved other than providing the DB and a spreadsheet of the unprotected players (already developed - will allow you to fill in your line-up as you pick). Everybody just has to stick to the rules.

5) Would probably start with the original DB and would give preference to real fans of certain cities - for example, if a die-hard Nordiques fan wants to pick for Quebec, they'd get first dibs. If there was like a ton of interest (not expecting it but who knows) - a different draft could be held for each of the 4 DB sets which would really start to give each one it's own flavor.

PM if this concept sound fun to you or even doable or you have suggestions on how it would be run since I don't do online league type stuff.

Quick AI question, if an AI team is struggling to stay under the salary cap, are they more likely to trade?

Would like to think this is the case but not sure whether the trading works that accurately in the game.

Okay, I think that it's time:

Here is second player in NHL history who reached 2 800 points! But Gretzky is still first in points.

His name is Kristjan Maver and he is from Slovenia.

Attributes in 25 years.
Attributes in 36 years.
Attributes in 41 years. After his last season.

Anyone else having issues with their 2nd lines always getting terrible ratings? Especially 2C seem to really be getting shafted no matter who's there... If they get over 7 AvR in a season it feels like they did amazingly because the baseline is just so low.

Well there goes another save. Anyone else getting these issues when you try and load a game it just crashes? My last save of this career is from over a week ago so not looking forward to playing that again any time soon...This is also the 2nd time this has happened. The db I use is the 2017-18 v10.1. Last time this happened I used the NHL36 db.

I highly recommend uploaded the saved game to the SI Forums so that Riz can take a look: FTP Details

You will also need to post a thread in that forum to say that you have uploaded a saved game and what the issue is.

I continued my old game with the NHL36 db as the GM of the Kansas City Scouts.
After falling short again in the 6th season, I made some big moves.

I got myself a new goalie from KHL as Ilya Sorokin wanted to come over. Many teams were after him but he decided to sign with the Scouts as they owned his rights earlier and tried to sign him on many occasion. So both parties are very happy now. Eric Comrie did amazing job as my start and finished 2nd in the Vezina voting, but with the Sorokin signing he was shipped off for a 1st and a 2nd.

Also my 1st line C Tyler Johnson was shipped off to make way after some of my young guys had really good seasons. He fetched me 2 1sts and a 2nd.

From the FA I solidified my D by picking up Chris Tanev. Also Coyotes were over the cap and shopped Dylan Strome around so I traded for him. Also picked up some depth up front with Andrew Shaw.

So Kansas City Scouts heading into the 2023-2024 season:
Vladimir Tkachyov - Filip Chytil - Dylan Strome
Jesperi Kotkaniemi - Ryan Suzuki - Albin Grewe
Andrew Shaw - Radek Faksa - Mitchell Stephens
William Carrier - Phillip Danault - Bryan Lockner

Jimmy Shuldt - Adam Boqvist
Jared McIsaac - Timothy Liljegren
Artyom Zub - Chris Tanev

Ilya Sorokin
Alexis Gravel

Top prospects:
Alex Riddle 20yo, 17th 2021
Khristian Boyle 21yo, 130th 2020
Guy Devereaux 20yo, 29th 2021
Kasperi Simontaival 21yo, 6th 2020
Brandon Coe 21yo, 27th 2020

Right now my D core should be the best in the league. Probably gonna upgrade Zub at some point this season. My F group is young but really solid. I've gotten really solid goaltending over the years but now with Sorokin and a promising Gravel, I have my best goalie duo so far.

I usually only get issue with my saves after like the around 100 years mark it can be a bit messy. But also with databases like NHL 36 are a bit unstable just because of the extra teams and data im guessing

Only 1 Hart? Wow. Did the game generate such player? Or it is manually addded? And did he play only in your team?
