Nope, the rule applies to American's as well. It's a CHL rule in general, not a Canadian player rule.

I heard that if he spends his first year in the NHL and is sent down in his second year (while still being below the age of 20), that the club has the option of sending him to the AHL. Am I incorrect?

Nope, the rule applies to American's as well. It's a CHL rule in general, not a Canadian player rule.

I believe it applies strictly to NA players. Imports can be sent down by their teams if they wish instead of sending them back to juniors.

I think he is good enough to stay in the NHL for the full season...especially in Deadmarsh and Allison are injured for awhile longer.
