Its a process... Sharks are coming into their 5th year of being top 10 pick

2023 4th
2022 11th (traded down)
2021 7th
2020 3rd(lost pick in trade)

2024- top 3 pick, this will be their 5th year of rebuild.
It's definitely 5 years into our darkness, but I wouldn't say it's year 5 of the rebuild. The rebuild didn't start until we traded Burns. Then Meier, then EK. The tear down was complete once we traded Hertl. Now it's rock bottom, possibly for another year. But your point is fair. We could still be in a rebuild process 3-5 years from now.

Weren't the Canes like 11th or something when they got the 2nd pick for Svechnikov and the Rangers were something similar when they got 1st for Lafreniere?

Just goes to show, ping pong balls matter a lot.

Fair, but then id argue anaheim didnt start rebuilding until the lindholm/manson/rakell trade season.

Honestly kinda similar situations for both franchises.
