Klefbom is actually very good (I think he's probably a #3 and he's signed long term at a low cap hit) and Eberle while having faults is still easily a top 6 winger.

I would trade Hamilton for klefbom + yak (realistic)/ebs (gotta consider the treliving bonus) all day

Trading Hamilton would be the largest mistake Calgary would make. Hamilton is Gio's successor as the #1 d-man and when he reaches his pinnacle he could be the best Flame D-man to lace-em up since Al MacInnis.

I honestly don't see the #1 in Dougie. I get he's only 22, but his mobility severely limits how useful of a dman he can be. My guess is he tops out as a 2/3 guy.

Yes that's what people said about another player.

A dominating all-round defenseman. Plays aggressively, loves to be physical and hits a lot. A hard-working team player. Possesses one of the hardest slapshots in the game. Lacks speed and agility, which can lead to issues with quick forwards. A very good penalty killer and, thanks to his slapshot, a useful point man on powerplay. That players name Zdeno Chara... In his prime he was a juggernaut on the blue line.

Hamilton has better skating skills than Chara ever had. With the big guys it is about positioning and their use of their wing span.

I wouldn't give up yet on Dougie. He's had his struggles this year to be sure, but at worst, he'll be a good #2 guy. As a whole, our d -men have struggled with the exception of Brodie at different points so I expect a much better Hamilton next season

I thought Dougie's been good this year after about 15-20 games in. No complaints. The guys on pace for 35-40 points; and has been better defensively. He has his bad moments, but he's also in the NHL before some guys are even wrapping up their AHL career.

He has the tools to be a 1 or 2. It's just a matter of putting them together. I'd love to get a defensive specialist stay at home guy to solidify that pairing. Wideman is not that guy. Engelland is not that guy.

Dougies strength of his game is his skating, always has been. He also has a great shot, and makes excellent passes in all zones. He's not a brusier, but he will lay guys out on occasion. I think he's a #2 now, given his age he could easily be our #1. I'm a big time fan.

There's different types of skating, though. Dougie's a fast skater, but he isn't quick or overly agile from what I've seen.

I'd agree with that, he's like the opposite of Gaudreau quick. But I'll also add, that for a dman his quickness works very well for him. As long as his positioning is solid, he doesn't need to be super agile.

Dougie Hamilton is nowhere near as mean as Chara.

Never said he was. Somebody mentioned Dougie's skating. I was pointing out another player who was deemed to have poor skating skills. Big guys don't skate the same.. They have problems accelerating because of longer legs. In an NHL arena that means they just get going and it is time to slow down.

Essentially he's an elite number #3, at 22 years old playing 2nd pairing minutes.

But alas, he struggled for 15 games, so it's going to take at least 1.5 seasons to shake that off .
Dougies been a beast lately, As he continues to put it together, he's gonna be a terror offensively.

Kinda want to hear a season long report on how Hamilton has adjusted to a new team? I see their were some stretches of bad play - but he looks right back to where he should be.
I was very very surprised by the trade, I thought this player was destined to take the reins once Chara was gone - and be a terror for all Leaf fans (his comments about being glad he wasn't on Toronto made me cringe) I still see that potential and think the Flames have a legit RH number 2 Dman, and great building chip. Boy would he of been nice on Rielly's right side.

I think Dougie's about 28th in NHL Dmen scoring.

So really good enough, atleast offensively, to be a poor man's number one. Ofcourse Brodie and Gio are also in the Top 30.

I think Dougie is a good 2nd D, great 3rd D.

If he can hit a prime of 15-35-50, with a decent +/- and playing upwards of 23-25 minutes then I think he becomes in the #1/2 Dman territory.

I think he is on his way toward this.

He's been quite good since... Decemberish? He's kind of what I was expecting now: very good offensive instincts, decent defensively but definitely could use some polishing in that regard, pretty good skater but not particularly agile. I think he's worth his cap hit now, so hopefully he continues improving and ends up being excellent value.
