How much would McDavid cost this summer if the Oilers hadn't already extended him? He's likely gonna have another 100-point season and possibly be a two-time defending Art Ross winner. With an $80M cap, and if he signed for the same cap percentage (16.67%) as a year ago, his next contract would be worth over $13.333M/season. But after what he's done the past two seasons I think around $14M/season is the lowest they could have got him. Probably closer to $15M/season.

Worth every penny and Still no Kuch points, niceeee. The big question is though which team is celebrating St. Patrick's day? Probably the Oilers, had an early game, already in Florida and they won an afternoon game, all reasons to get drunk and stink it up tomorrow.

McDavid now 2 pts back of Kucherov, 1 game up on Malkin, Kuch with a game in hand to play in an hour. This is a dead heat. McDavid is scoring 1.8 pts/gm over the last 10 while Kuch is scoring 1.5 pts/gm. If each scores at this rate 'till the end of the season it's a tie at 109 pts, ha ha. Gonna make the rest of the season interesting (thank god).

Sigh. Leading the league in EV points by 11 (70 vs next closest 59).

Hope he can pull off the Art Ross again. Guy deserves it.

Man McDavid is really having an incredible season that is going under the radar because our team is so bad and our God awful PP is robbing him of a significant lead in the points race. If he can still somehow pull off an Art Ross under these conditions, I'll be even more impressed with him than I already am. Hope he does it!

The PP will eventually be fixed, and he'll eventually be the first to crack 130 pts since Lemieux in 95-96. The question is: will that be next year, or in 3 years?

Make or break game tomorrow. If the Oilers and McDavid have a strong game and beat Tampa without letting Kuch get many points, it will go a long ways to his Art Ross hopes... that being said, I am super worried about tomorrow's game.

Swing game tomorrow baby.

Gotta end the night +2 on Kuch, which could be very real possibility if those lines go head to head and we don't take many penalties.

MacKinnon is beasting this year as a side note. He missed a couple weeks too, I think he's a Hart winner this year if Avs hold on.

It's amazing that he's only 2 points back. That said with the way that Malkin and MacKinnon have been surging even if he passes Kucherov there are no guarantees.

The more you think about it the more absurd it is that he could very well win it giving up 20 points in powerplay production to other contenders.

Crazy to think that McDavid would have needed ~30 more points than he has right now for him to have been able to drag this team to just being a bubble playoff team. Would have needed to be sitting at 120 points right now.

Feel shame Chia and McLellan, feel shame.

Does Connor get a bonus if he takes the Art Ross?

From the league. There are bonuses for every trophy that the league pays (doesn't count on teams cap).

He is already getting max bonuses from the Oilers no matter what happens. Schedule A bonuses are already maxed out, and no way he falls out of the top 10 in all of assists, points or PPG at this stage. Even if he gets hurt and falls from top 10 in assists and points, his 1.25 PPG will still hold up as top 10 for his Schedule B bonus.

I'm sure Connor is going to have a big game today. You know he wants to steal the points lead from Kucherov.

McKinnon only 1 behind now. He's doing the whistle past the defense McDavid move all day. Blah.

Detroit sucks so bad.

no. you use these games to work on things and instill things that will help the team overall for next year. you try to see if drai and connor being on separate lines can help the team become more balanced. it's about hopefully getting the team turned around for next year not about one player's pointage. use every game you have to assess and try things.

Uh Next year were bottom 10 and the year after that. Maybe 3 years from now were sniffing at the WC spot.

Oilers don't want Connor winning the Art Ross anyway. It would be so embarrassing to the GM/organization because every question at the NHL Awards would be "how can a team miss the playoffs with the Art Ross 100+ point player on it?".

Chia already has enough heat, he's probably happy to see someone else win it.

you don't know that. you must continuously build for team success. whatever helps the team become better overall. personal achievements are very much secondary. todd doesn't have the luxury to waste games. he needs to start getting the team to play the right way.... get things started on a turn around for next season now.
