I don't think you have to single out one bad play by Phaneuf to boost up Crosby's candidacy as the very best prospect in the CHL. As others have pointed out, everybody is going to get played if you're a defenseman at some point. Heck, one night at the old Montreal Forum I saw Kirk Muller skate circles right around Ray Bourque to score a highlight-reel goal. Yes, that's not a typo, Muller schooling Bourque. Stuff happens.
That said, this is the beauty of the message board--specifically threads like these. Nobody is wrong and time usually tells all. So, I totally respect Impaler's statement that Lecavalier is the better NHL prospect over Crosby. I disagree, but respect the comment at face value.
For my money, I think Crosby is not only the best prospect to come along in a long time, but he WILL make an immediate impact in the NHL...something like a top-10 finish in league scoring whenever they start up again.
Again, time will tell.
