To make it short and simple, with little explanation, he sucks this year. Watch the games, look at the stats, they’re congruent with one another.

Not sure why that is? The goalie coach? Well, he had a poor season like this two years ago, with Terreri still here, so I doubt it’s that. Although it wasn’t this bad.

Well this year he hasn’t really had anyone pushing for his job, maybe that was why he was better last year. He seems to be solid one year and then a dumpster fire the next.

Its kind of similar to what we are seeing with Zacha recently, in that some guys just seem to work well together. Zajac isn't really a set up guy so sticking him with guys like Wood or Palms wasn't working out, but stick him with guys like Coleman and Noesen who love to cycle and out work the other team and Zajac looks like a new player. Similar to Zacha where, at this time, he seems like a guy who would rather use his IQ and passing ability to set guys up, so stick him guys who need to be fed pucks and love to score and you get better results.
I think Zajac is at the point where we just need to let him out there with a high energy grinder line. No longer should he be with more finesse players. Reminds me of the Jagr quote from a couple years ago that Zajac needed to play a little softer while on offense, can't always play as hard as you do when defending, but that is just not him anymore. And while Zajac has been good, Coleman and Noesen have been real good as well.

Zacha I feel has just found himself. I feel he'd be successful with whomever. Granted he is more of a passer so playing him with Palm's makes sense, but if he were with Coleman and Noesen, I think he'd do well there, as much as if he was between Mojo and Bratt.

What is up with guys attacking our players' heads?

What a ridiculous, childish reaction by Burrows. Long gone are the days of guys being able to take clean hits and carry on.

He's such a puke. TSN had a camera on him as he went back to the bench; no one even looked at him as he sat down at the end of the bench. He awkwardly just gritted his teeth and looked up at the jumbotron.

I want double digit games. If you want to come over and grab Hall and exchange some words, fine, but don't tackle him and flail your knees near his head when you're down on the ice. Dude's an uncontrollable child.

It's amazing how many times Nico get's run from behind and the officials do nothing about, how many times is this going to happen before the kid gets injured. This crap has happened way too much this year with our players getting hit right between the numbers along the wall, never mind Hall and Severson getting their knees taken out, Palmieri getting run over, Johansson elbowed in the head, Hall kneed in the head. The officials don't do shit about it so our guys try to respond but we always get f***ed in over with the calls.

Against Buffalo, Edmonton, Arizona, Vancouver, Detroit, Ottawa the Devils are a combined 9-4-2. Maybe it could be better but it's not a reason that they would miss the playoffs.

I'll be damned, that's not what I thought from anecdotal observation. I stand corrected.

Burrows gets ten games...I'm actually moderately surprised with the caveat the league loves coming down on goons, and at this point in his career Burrows is a goon.

You guys think Kinkaid still goes in net tomorrow vs Calgary?
He better f***in not.

Hynes has cut his rope in the past when he wasn’t even playing quite as poor.

Let Lack face the Flames. He’s either gonna get destroyed or he’ll stick it to the team that gave up on him earlier this year. There’s two games in a back to back this weekend to give Kinkaid another crack.

If they miss the playoffs it will be a direct result of these inexcusably consistent losses to the dregs of the league. The most consistent thing about the team this year has been the soft play and lack of effort against teams way below them in the standings.

If they miss the playoffs, it will be because the Devils had a massive collapse as in 9-10 game losing streak IN REGULATION(no Points).

And the Devils are 9-4-2 against the so-called "dregs of the league".

it would be really nice to have consistency though.

the devils have now dropped 13 points against the eight worst teams in the league. that’s inexcusable and the difference between us and the lightning/bruins.

Difference between the us and the lightning is Steven Stamkos

Difference between us and the Bruins is that Boston sucks. :sarcasm:

Kinkaid should have been pulled at least after the 3rd goal. He was flopping around all over the place but of course Hynes doesn't do anything. He never knows when to pull a goalie or call a timeout.
That's exactly what was happening. He was flopping, which makes too many people on this board questIoning his technique when Cory does that.

Not gonna blame Hynes for not pulling him after the 1st, UNLESS he goes right back to him tomorrow. I’ll write that off as Hynes way of saying “You had a tough period, you’ve been good the last stretch of games. I’m staying with you right now” And since Hynes allowed him to do that, I think that should have been his PBA card showing or his get out of jail free card. Not another start tomorrow night.

Just for fun

Our goaltending since December 29th

49 goals allowed on 446 shots faced, that's exactly 89% of shots faced that were stopped. Correct me if I ran those numbers wrong, sometimes I make mistakes on these, especially when running these by hand. And if my math is correct, we're allowing only 26.23 shots per game (not including any empty netters that may have been scored against us during this time). 26.23 shots against is the lowest we allowed all year.

Goaltending before those 18 games was 100 goals allowed on 1189 shots faced. That's a 91.6% which is quite a contrast from what we've seen recently. That's almost 35 shots per game. Team is playing better defensively than they did the first 34 games. Cory's play dropped off by quite a bit, but Kinkaid's play has stayed pretty much identical as his play from before the calendar year. Shots against have been cut by over 25% since the end of December, while goaltending has been cut by 2.5%.
