As much as I dislike Moore, I don't know that you can really lean on any D man on this team at the moment. You can make that comment about any D man on the team.
Greene played 16:48
Severson played 17:39

and Moore played 20:26

No bueno.

Devils likely are resting Greene a bit. I'm sure there will be a point when he's raking in 22+ minutes.

Moore played PP since the Devils went with 2D on one unit where he had 3+ minutes and a few PK minutes. No other defender played both and PK.

Greene, Severson, Mueller, and Santini only played PK. Butcher and Santini only played PP.

I don't disagree with you. He probably shouldn't be getting more minutes than Greene or Sevs, but I think the reality is that they have to pretty evenly spread the minutes around to the 4 sheltering Butcher and Mueller. It just is what it is. I'd way rather them be obsessed with Moore than LJ, and I'm no Moore fan.

This was also the perfect game for the Devils to ease Butcher, Mueller, and Santini into playing more minutes at evens.

Devils know what Greene can do and they know what Severson can do. Greene in particular has looked incredible these past couple games especially with joining the play offensively. Playing fewer minutes likely helps him be more active.

The Devils sat a lot of their top players in the 3rd. Hishier and Johansson were in the bottom 3 forwards in minutes for the game. Hayes got the most minutes for all forwards and Noesen/Gibbons got 2nd line minutes (4th and 6th respectively among forwards.)

Blowouts like this happened so rarely that we're not used to it.

I don't know what the splits for the minutes were, but I don't mind playing whoever the hell we want, when we have a 5 goal lead like that. If the lead started to evaporate, I would hope that the coaches would start putting out the best players, but playing Moore so many minutes in a blowout lead is fine.

It also saves some mileage on the good players. It's like riding your bicycle on a short trip on a nice day, instead of starting up your car and taking that.

They had a 6-1 lead going into the third. The top players should have been stapled to the bench. It is a long season

I don't disagree. I think Moore shouldn't be playing 20 minutes on most nights.

I see Moore as a bit of a lesser evil among the two, just for the fact that he can put up a few points, and is quite a bit better of a skater. He's also only

Someone has to say it, but I am real impressed by how Hynes is coaching this team this season.

Yes it is still early days but he has made the right call on which players to shelter (Butcher - utilize him on the pp and restrict his even strength minutes) and which players not to shelter (Hischier & Bratt - they both had great training camps, they should playing regular minutes despite being rookies). And of course scratching Lovejoy in game 1 was the right move as he was outplayed in the preseason and didn't deserve just to be put into the lineup just because he is a veteran. Likewise restricting his minutes in today's game.

Good looking out, as I was in the middle of completing that post, when my computer started slowing up and I premturely hit post reply on that one, before I had finished it. Haha I thought I didn't finish that one!

Anyway, he's also only 26 or 27 and his suckage has a better chance of plateauing than 33 year old Lovejoy, who looks like he could potentially be even worse than last year. He looked as bad as he did at any point last year, but because he only played a little over 12 minutes, we didn't see his usual treasure trove of gaffes. His suckage per 60 was still about on par with what it was last year.

Through camp and now two games, it seems he has the team really buying in.

I wanna give it a month before I start to really believe in him. I am starting to think there's a chance that maybe he was just purposely not running a system/playing players in situations that were conducive to winning last year. I always thought there was that chance, which I even said last year quite a few times, as no one could possibly be as stupid as to think Lovejoy was good enough to even be our #2 or that Kalinin should be starting 70% of his shifts in the D-zone, playing in the D-zone every chance we could, etc.

I would like to see if we can consistently play a decent possession game. I said before the start of the season, I don't expect it to be perfect or anything. but an improvement over the last two years.

Coleman and Gibbons were awesome today. Those were the two that I was bummed about seeing on the opening night roster... but man they are putting in some minutes... contributing offensively... I'm impressed.

Disagree. I want Hall to continue to play and get on a roll

I rather him stay healthy It is an 82 game season. They probably aren't going to have many 5 goal leads after two periods. If you find time for rest you take it.

Hall looked like he was on a one-man mission for possession tonight.

I mean on some of those takeaways, he just refused to be denied the puck.

That 4th line though, they looked real hungry out there.

Only thing I didn't like today was LJ.
He just doesn't belong on the ice.

Everyone else played their role to near perfection today.

Hope Palms or Stafford (or both) can return soon.
