I don't really like the 3v3 overtime, it's too gimmicky (although so is the shootout).

I'd rather see 10 minutes of 4v4 before the shootout,
the quality of overtime hockey was significantly better 4v4. There's just too much open ice in 3v3, it's forcing players to err too much on the side of caution and making it less exciting as a result.

I prefer 10 minutes of 5v5, and the return of the tie.

But that's not going to happen since we now live in the age of instant gratification. I'd even settle for 10 minutes of 4v4 and the return of the tie, over 3v3 and gimmicks. But again, ties likely aint happening.

I don't like ties, but I hate the loser point. It would only make sense if a win was 3 pts and an OT win 2 pts. Otherwise it mucks up the standings.

He's Swiss. They are usually good at speaking English/French
That s normal. Here, most people speak at least 2 languages. 3 is really a normality. Nothing special ... Swiss German, French and English. Swiss German implies German as well.
The country has 4 national languages !! + a language Franca ... English.
I speak 6 languages + a bit of some others. Here it is good. In Anglos saxon countries they look at me like at an extra terrestrial being.

A 3 point system is a great idea. Parity is great and all, but like you said, the loser points really muck up the standings. Wish the league would consider it.

the loser points really muck up the standings.

What you guys consider a "muck up of the standings", the NHL brass considers increased revenue from keeping otherwise non-competitive teams in the playoff race for as long as possible.

Call me cynical (I am), but that's how I perceive it, which is another reason I don't see the loser point going away anytime soon.

Even baseball has added wildcard teams for the revenue. It’s just the nature of modern sports business which prioritizes revenue over a sound business model. Why did the NHL expand to Vegas instead of moving a franchise?

Agree with most of these. Disagree on these 3

Greene - thought it was his worst game of the season
Wood - thought he was fine
Noesen - thought he was less than stellar

they should make it 10min 3on3 overtime with running time if you want. it will force teams to roll more lines out there and tired legs will only add to the game being ended before the shootout.

if you did go back to the tie (which they won't) they you would have to increase overtime to 10mins.

The loser point is BS and only serves to keep teams in the playoff hunt that really don't belong. Of course, the NHL won't refer to it as a loser point, but instead the winner of the OT is rewarded a winner point. Again, pure BS. How OT is handled is up for debate (3v3, 4v4, whatever), but you win, you get 2, you lose, you get NADA.

You surly cant be serious? Guy is 20 years old and being shuffled throughout the lineup due to injuries yet still set up a few chances and played very good defense. Not to mention he's been paired with Hayes and Boyle (both who are very slow in transition). At the time of the draft there was no other offensive player that should have been chosen over Zacha, and if we went defense the board would've exploded. How about we give him more than 82 games before we call him a "next to nothing player offensively".

Yeah you can’t be serious. Even though I’m not high on barzal he had more points last night than zacha has this year. I’m not saying he’s a bust, but i really don’t like the pick. Thought he was going to be much better

You can't give B's and A's to defenders who give up 4 goals.

Henrique needs a D. He wasn't good at all and largely invisible with his -2 rating

Thought Wood was great in getting a penalty shot and was notable every shift (mostly in a good way)...

Thought Moore had a pretty good game for him. Thought Butcher played well except had a couple egregious rookie giveaways. I'll agree it was Lovejoy's best game of the season. Mueller had an A for part of the game and F for another part -

When I watched Gibbons I thought for a second that maybe Martin St Louis has found his way back into the league somehow. He had a very good game.

Give Nico a B for a couple of times he got schooled like a rookie - though that's to be expected.

What has changed with this team where they can only get 2.5 power plays out of three games? The Oilers played a pretty spotless game the other night... but the Devils being as fast and relentless as they hae been should be drawing more penalties.

Oh well... no shame in going 1-1-1 on a tough trip like that. They just need to come home and get ready for a tough match-up with St Louis. We REALLY need Palmieri and Mojo back and for Zajac to get healthy.

Somehow I don't think you watched that game at all. Otherwise, there's no way you can come away from that thinking that the Oilers committed zero penalties. The Refs just swallowed their whistles as far as the Oilers go while they were calling penalties on the Devils ONLY.

For me it's a three game sample size. Did refs conspire to just swallow their whistles for the Devils Canadian road trip?
