So do we expect Merrill-Lovejoy, or Moore-Lovejoy, maybe Auvittu?

Whoever it is Lovejoy will be expected to be that solidifying presence.

Best case imo is Lovejoy is to Merrill as we hope Greene is to Sev's.

Whatever it ends up being I think this was a significant signing. One that will go under the radar but pay big dividends.

If he helps Merrill get back on track, that's a huge dividend, both in terms of the asset that is Merrill, but also for the club, assuming Greene does the same with Sev's, then we could be back to having a solid top 4.

Welcome to hell Glad to have Lovejoy aboard

He gave us a sense of stability at the blue line, particularly on the defensive end. He was very good at neutralizing the speed of our opponents by cutting off the angles & forcing them to hold up with the puck until the Pena got back on defense. With a speedy team (like the kind you guys are building), I could seen Ben Lovejoy being a great shutdown dman like he was for us.

Moore Lovejoy sounds like a pornstar.

All I can think of is Ian McShane.

Moore-Lovejoy might also be a nice play on words if they wind up getting overused too often.

Which is a distinct possibility if we don't bring anybody else in. Hell, Moore was playing close to 20 minutes a night this last year when we still had Larsson and Schlemko.

I did get to see A lot of Lovejoy watching the playoffs and talking hockey with you. I thought Lovejoy was A very responsible defensemen through the playoffs. The other thing I liked about Lovejoys game. Is he really seemed to step up when Letang was suspended and Daley was injured. He really seemed to elevate his game and the young defensemen around him. Behind Letang i think he may have been the Penguins second best defensemen at times. I really like the additionI can see Lovejoyfilling the gap and being a responsible Defensemen that fits the system. And a huge help in developing young defensemen and playing A role in the future of this team. I also think Lovejoy at a 3 year cap hit of 2.6 gives the devils more room to continue building. Rather than taking A risk on A guy like Demers at 5 years at 4.5. Ive been really happy with Shero.

Lovejoy very well might have been our 2nd best dman after Daley got hurt. He really stepped up as a leader after that.

You guys suck. You stole my lovejoy away.

And he was just starting to get good at that pass off the boards behind the goalie too...

Am I too late to chime in?

HATED IT.

*two snaps down*

I saw this thread and thought we had extended and almost had a heart attack. Then I realized we couldn't re-sign him, because he has 2 more years left after this one and then I had a heart attack anyway.

No love. No joy.
Just heartache haha.
You opened up a serious can of worms with this bump...
I feel like 80% of our fanbase is in agreement that he's been a whole lot of awful. I don't think too many people are gonna contest that at this point.

I was expecting him to be a wash with Schlemko, only worse offensively. All in all, I figured he wouldn't be much of a drop off from Schlemko.

I feel like Karl Stollery is better than him, I realize he's played sheltered minutes and a small sample size compared to Lovejoy. That's just how putrid Lovejoy has been. And the pucks aren't hitting his goalies as much at even strength as they had been up until a couple weeks ago. He's been a liability in every sense of the word. Not bad, not a nuisance, just a complete and utter liability. He's caused so many goals through his own screens this year, we should consider using him on the power play when we're having trouble screening the goalie. He might even rack up a few points on the PP as the netfront presence, that's how many screens he's provided for the other team.

I don't even think Quincey was as bad as him, I also realize Quincey was used more sparingly.

Haven't really minded the whole "old boys" way Shero has been running things(Hynes, Fitzgerald, Bennett) but this signing was downright abhorrent, I never want to see Lovejoy play here again after this season.

I think they were hoping Greene/Severson was going to be our top pairing and Lovejoy would be playing second pairing minutes at most. Unfortunately it didn't work out that way and Lovejoy is playing way too much. It doesn't help that we don't have anybody to pair him with to help cover his weaknesses either.

Hopefully Santini keeps developing and takes over as a top 4 defensive defenseman next year and we can slot Lovejoy down to the third pairing, where he won't be exposed as much as he has been this year.
