^Orpik still on the team. $78M Salary Cap. Kempny, Jerabek, Beagle and Chiasson allowed to leave. Bowey, Boyd, Wilson re-signed with raises. Carlson $8M. Grubauer traded (to Buf for 2019 1st, hypothetically). If Jerabek and Kempny have to be allowed to walk to re-sign Carlson it is what it is. I've always maintained Grubauer will likely be traded.

As for your comments about the D. Orpik, Bowey, and Djoos rotated as 4-6D for the Caps for much of the season this year and the Caps made the Playoffs so there's concern there but it's a risk that can be taken all with the minimum Salary Cap increase.

We have to much quantity and not enough quality on the backend. Moore will leave as a free agent but i'm not sure how much we do beyond that. Ideally we find a top pairing LHD to push Greene down the depth chart but they aren't exactly growing on trees. Lovejoy certainly has his limitations but he can still be an effective player when used properly and limiting his minutes. Having Butcher and Mueller be able to play both sides is certainly a plus as well

Free Agent- Vats
Mueller- Severson
Greene- Butcher
LoveJoy

I don't care what anybody says, but Greene playing top pairing minutes right now is the biggest liability on the team. He consistently gets buried in his own zone and just can't keep up to the speed of the game anymore. That being said, i dont see an answer on the free agent market this off-season, curious what Ray will do.

and yet you still leave nothing for injuries, every other team leaves 3-5 million for injury replacements during the season. the caps used 31 players this season at league minimum salaries of 650k thats 9 players 5.850 Million you didnt include. so you failed miserably injured players have to be paid. you cant put a player on LTIR UNLESS THEY ARE OUT LONG TERM, there are also callup and transfer fees that you always leave out

until you make a roster that acounts for these things youre wasting every ones time including your own

and you aready fudge it once by trading Grubauer

so i rest my case, youve proven so that even devils fans can see you'll have to make changes to keep Carlson, which is my point. it will not be simple nor is it a foregone conclusion like you so desparately want it to be

This roster is essentially the same roster the Capitals themselves carried this season. They had injuries and they still somehow managed to do it. Go back through my post history chief, you'll see that I've maintained that the Caps will likely trade Grubauer from Day 1. I'm sorry to break it to ya but thems the breaks and I'd say this scenario has about as much probability of happening today as any other. The Caps are banking nearly enough Cap Space in my example for a league minimum call-up (move the abacus a little this way or that on any of the signings I made and it'll just squeeze in but again it is what it is).

The changes you speak of? Yeah losing Beagle will hurt but aside from face offs Stephenson may already be the better player. Kempny and Jerabek? Yeah they've looked pretty good (and also kinda bad from time to time) but they were last minute nearly TDL additions, no major loss when weighed against resigning Carlson. Grubauer was always likely to be gone whether it was via the ED or now via trade. As for your last stanza, I think we'll all rest easier if you do indeed get a life and, in fact, rest your case.
