Since we're in the dregs of summer, I figured I'd post a few OT threads just for fun. For this week:

For each number 1 through 35 (or more), who is the first Devil that comes to your head. I'm not talking about the best. It could be the worst player that ever played for us. I'm just saying the absolute first thing that pops into your head. Heck, it doesn't even have to be the right number.

My list:

1 Burke
2 Fetisov
3 Daneyko
4 Stevens
5 White
6 Albelin
7 Kasatonov
8 Troy Mallette
9 Parise
10 Corey Millen
11 Madden
12 Rolston
13 Nico
14 Gionta
15 McLean
16 Holik
17 Sykora
18 Brylin
19 Vilgrain
20 Semak
21 McKay
22 Lemeuix
23 Driver
24 Dougie Brown
25 Crowder
26 Elias
27 Niedermayer
28 Kevin Dean
29 Grant Marshall
30 Brodeur
31 Terrari
32 Conacher
33 Zdino Cigar

Had to think really think about a few of these - 33 gave me the most trouble & I had to look up the name on that one. Knew it was a defenseman with a big shot that was here a short period of time during the down years, but couldn't quite recall the name (so...Gelinas or Urbom). Completely forgot about Graves already!

Ya. I had to look up some spellings, and I double checked a couple numbers just to make sure I didn't look like an idiot (well, MORE of an idiot).

Same - I tried to think of the player on my own, but checked a few to make sure I had the correct number.

3 4 26 27 30 should be ones that everyone thinks of a specific player first . But I guess it depends on when you became a Devils fan and it’s still subjective .

Well, you'd have to be a REAL old-timer to remember anyone else wearing those numbers.

There's a few interesting numbers. 7, 8 10, and 20 (amon others) are kind of up on the air. 12 and 14 had a few options. 32, 33 and 34 can be kind of hard, but "none" I'd also a valid response. 1 could be hard for younger fans.

I was helped by recently spending time on the All-Time Devils thread and doing a couple of line-ups. (The late 90s/2000s is when I got into hockey in a real way anyway.)

I since I was double checking and/or looking up what I missed, I added the years they had the number to every players’ name.

Also provided some commentary.

#1 Chico (1981-86)
#2 Zidlicky (2012-15)
#3 Dano (1984-03)
#4 Stevens (1992-04)
#5 Larsson (2012-16)
#6 Greene (2007-20)
#7 Martin (2007-10)
#8 Butcher (2018-21, sorry Zubie!)

I stabbed Zubrus in the back. I feel shame.

#9 Parise (2006-12)

Not even Hall could evict the traitor lol.

#10 Rassmussen lol (2004-07)

I can’t believe how much I inexplicably associate this number with this guy, when I see Holtz my brain says “hey, it’s Erik Rassmussen’s old #”. Can’t really explain it.

#11 Madden (1999-09)
#12 Friesen (2003-04)

He played 162 games in NJ two decades ago but it would take a lot for me to associate this number with anyone else.

#13 Hischier (2018-23)
#14 Gionta (2002-09, sorry Rico!)
#15 Langenbrunner (2002-11)
#16 Holik (1993-09)
#17 Kovy (2010-13, sorry Petr!)
#18 Brylin (1995-08)
#19 Zajac (2007-21)
#20 Pandolfo (1997-10)
#21 Palmieri (2016-21, sorry Randy!)
#22 Boulton (2012, sorry Pepe!!!!)

I genuinely blanked here. I basically couldn’t remember anyone and then I thought “hey I remember that I make fun of how Lou went through a period where he gave #22 to endless parade of scrubs/ energy forwards/ enforcers like Eric Boulton”.

That’s how I got this answer.

#23 Gomez (2000-07)
#24 Stevenson (2001-04, sorry Bryce)

Similar to Rassmussen & #10, Turner Stevenson is subconsciously forever #24 for some dumb reason.

#25 Arnott (1998-11)
#26 Elias (1997-16)
#27 Niedermayer (1992-04)
#28 Rafalski (2000-07)

I actually borderline temporarily forgot Severson wore this, that’s how much Rafalski is melded to this number in my brain.

#29 Blackwood (2019-23, sorry everyone else who wore this number)
#30 Brodeur (1994-14)
#31 Terreri (1990-01)
#32 Jon f***ing Gilles Bitches (2022)

19 games we can always treasure. (Borderline guess but I was right.)

#33 Graves (2022-23)
#34 Vanbiesbrouck (2001-02)

The recent All-Time Devils thread helped here.

#35 Schneider (2014-20)
#36 Lappin (2016-17)

I bought a #36 Nick Lappin jersey back in the day so this is my time to shine.

#37 Zacha (2016-22)
#38 Fiddler (2017)

I remember Lappin, Zacha and Fiddler being 36-37-38. Look, I was a STH in 2016-17 and we went 28-40-14, I needed to find ways to be entertained.

#39 Gibbons (2018)

Our two month super star. Let’s f***ing go! I’m going all the way! (This was also a guess lol)

#40 Schmid (2022-23)
#41 Vanecek (2022-23)

I did occasionally get their numbers confused at times this season but it’s the spirit of the thing.

#42 Lazar (2023)
#43 Seney (2019-21)

Luke needs to cleanse the Quest for Stanley from my Brain.

#44 Wood (2016-23)
#45 Vatanen (2018-21)
#46 Damn it… nothing.

I don’t remember Mike Sislo wearing this but the hilarity of him wearing #9 overshadows my memory of just about everything else Mike Sislo-number related.
I forgot former-Olympian Karl Stollery’s number and/or most of his overall existence.
I’m taking a mulligan. I won’t quit, can’t quit because the next one is a gimme.

#47 Quenneville (2017-19)
#48 Damn, another blank.

I FORGOT TYLER KENNEDY WORE THAT? Just take me behind the barn and shoot me.

#49 Zetterlund (2022-23)

Miss this apple-cheeked dumpling.

#50 Daws (2022-23)
#51 MY MAN SERGEI MOTHER f***ING KALININ (2016-17)

I can’t believe how much I remember Sergei Kalinin. Sometimes I see Sergei Kalinin awkwardly playing hockey in my dreams.

I can think of no better place to stop.

I always remember #2 goes to whichever shit defenseman made the team at the last second.
I also remember #22 goes to whichever double shit forward made the team at the last second.

Lots of #2s to go around for this team.

Well they're definitely the most memorable players :)

This game really is being used to age us isn't it? I drew a few blanks and am ashamed, I may have made some mistakes...

1 - Weekes (changed his number to get an entire roster with a number 30 and under if I recall correctly?)
2 - Souray
3 - Daneyko
4 - Stevens
5 - Colin White
6 - Tommy Albelin
7 - Hamilton
8 - Mike Jefferson/Danton
9 - Parise
10 - Corey Millen
11 - Parise again, he had the number in Albany right?
12 - Guerin
13 - Not allowed to have this number even if you're Nico Hischier I say
14 - Rolston
15 - (Drawning a blank looking...) wow forgot about Langenbrunner
16 - Holik
17 - Tom Chorske
18 - Brylin
19 - Bob Carpenter
20 - Alexander Semak
21 - Randy McKay
22 - Lemieux
23 - Driver
24 - Lyle Odelein
25 - Dave Halestorm
26 - Elias
27 - Niedermayer
28 - Severson
29 - Shawn Chambers
30 - Brodeur
31 - Chris Terreri
32 - (Drawning a blank looking...) I guess i could have pulled Steve Thomas if I tried really hard but I'll go with Dakota Mermis
33 - Reid Simpson
34 - (Drawning a blank looking...) I honestly wouldn't have pulled any of these names if you gave me all day to think about it.
35 - Cory Schneider

Bonus (thinking vaguely of larger numbers)
40 - Kevin Weekes
44 - Stephane Richer
68 - Jagr
93 - Doug Gilmour

I think I got these number right and if I didn't then spirits implanted false memories in my brain
