I think they will have a chip on their shoulder going into the series. Much like the start of the season, No matter who we play not many people are going to give them a chance. Its always good to play like that.

Sevo is a tremendous talent. He’s pretty good in transition and on the breakout and looks like he’s improved his popgun shot this year. I really like his game and I think the aggressiveness causes a lot of his warts. I’d take him over a boring, uncreative, poor skater, poor in transition and gaining the O-zone defender like Adam Larsson 101 times out of 100. He also needs to stop blowing coverage so much. He loses his man so much in the D-zone and looks clueless there sometimes, but he’s still a tremendous talent.

I agree as well. It's incredibly frustrating to watch him play actual defense.

However, I can't think of anyone else other than Vatanen who reads plays better in the offensive zone. He battles hard to win 50/50 pucks in the offensive zone.

I feel like some time with Scott Stevens would do him wonders. Too bad he's not with us anymore.

Can anyone remember having a Devil player whose season long performance was so complete, that it was really impossible to single out a flaw that required improvement?

Hall was just such a wonderful to me this year.

I wonder what shero could possibly say to him in the off-season this year...

You only played to 109% of your capabilities...

I know this post goes more than 24 hours back, but I saw a lot of discussion on this. First off I'm not defending anyone beyond this play, BUT if you look back at my post history, a few days ago I said they do exactly this every game and in a 7 game series it will eventually bite them. EVERY PLAYER on the team does it. Whenever they are in the corner or behind the net, they always pass to the slot blindly, and usually there is a Devil there and it turns into a great break out.

Don't bring me into the who's better debate, don't know, and if there is this much debate, it is close enough I don't care. But this play is obviously coached, seeing how everyone does it, and it happens multiple times per game.

I saw a flaw, but in Hall fashion, he improved it pretty quick and never looked back.

Great point that many overlook... This is a standard now on the NHL for many teams to break other teams' forechecks that try to take away board outlets.

Dano has said on multiple occasions how he doesn't like it and it was considered high risk in his day.

That said, it's part of our young centers' growing pains that we can expect one of these misjudged passes a game. Noesen's idea was far worse.

    No, they dont.

    Obviously, they dont.

You wont be in the NHL long (or the AHL, or the ECHL, or the (insert league) if you do this "all the time".

We really do make the pass out front from both the corner and behind the net frequently..Not too long ago Daneyko during a game went on a diatribe about how he is old school and doesn't like it but everyone is doing it. It was on a play from Greene to Vatanen from behind the net with a forechecker on him if I remember correctly.

Yes they do, I've noticed it at least 2-3 times a game if not more.

    Cmon man.

On a real note, let us all rejoice that today we don’t have to talk about locker clean out day for the first time in 5 years :D

Every defenseman has made that play this season. Every one. The forwards do it all the time as well.

Not "blindly" they don't, which is what was stated.

The comment I replied to is:
That's ridiculous. Nobody long for the NHL routinely "passes blindly into the slot". Nope.

Watch the games. It happens a lot, trufleshuffle's estimation of 2-3 times a game seems accurate to how often I perceive it happening. Regardless of how often it happens, people don't seem to get benched for doing it when it goes wrong, so I suspect this is being coached.

100% they have done it blindly. They make the play a few times a game but often it is blind.

To add to this, 9/10 there is someone there to receive it, which adds to the "coached" theory.

If there's a player getting passes on their tape, it's not a "blind" pass.

There is not a coach in the NHL, or in the West Peoria PEE-WEE hockey league, telling his defensemen to blindly pass pucks into the defensive zone slot.

    Just......no....nope...no.
